Unpleasant smell of a fur coat: ways to neutralize
Over time, fur products lose their luster and begin to spread an unpleasant odor. These are sure signs that your coat needs help: it needs to be cleaned immediately. In order to rid a fur garment of unpleasant odors and restore its attractive appearance, it is not necessary to give it to dry cleaning. You can cope with this problem at home.
Freezing is an effective way to get rid of odors from a fur coat at home
Dry the fur well. Then fold the fur coat with the fur on the inside and place it in a tight plastic bag. Send the bundle to the freezer (it is desirable that there are no food in this freezer compartment), and remove it after 1-2 days. Unfold the fur coat and hang it in a dry, well-ventilated place. By freezing, you can rid your fur garment of even the most persistent odors.
Vinegar essence from unpleasant odors
Prepare a 9% solution of vinegar essence. After that, sprinkle a cloth with vinegar solution and wipe the fur thoroughly with it. Hang the fur garment on a hanger, take it out into the fresh air and leave it for a couple of hours. The vinegar solution remarkably removes the unpleasant odor of a fur coat and quickly disappears in the air.
Never use perfume or other fragrances to combat the unpleasant odor of your fur coat. This odorless remedy will not fix the problem. Moreover, when combined with a flavoring agent, the unpleasant odor will increase.
Removing odors with soapy water
Add a small amount of hair shampoo or liquid soap to a bowl of warm water. Soak a clothesbrush in the prepared solution and carefully treat the lining of the fur coat (not fur) with it. Then take a comb for curls, place cotton wool soaked in soapy water between its teeth and fix, and then comb the fur with it.
Coffee is a remedy that removes unpleasant odors
Take a little ground coffee and sprinkle on those places that are very “fragrant” (this, for example, can be cuffs, collar, etc.) Then fold the fur coat so that the fur remains inside, place the product in a tight plastic bag and leave on day. After that, take out the fur coat, hang it on a hanger and take it to the balcony or other well-ventilated place. This method of neutralizing unpleasant odors is acceptable only if the fur is dark in color.
Cleaning light fur products at home
To restore the former attractiveness of the fur product and eliminate the unpleasant odor that it spreads, take a little dry starch or semolina and sprinkle the nap of the fur coat with this absorbent. Then gently rub the fur with your palms (during this procedure, the dirt from the pile should go to the absorbent). Shake off the dry “detergent” and then gently brush the coat with a soft clothes brush.
