Unidox is a drug used to treat lung diseases, infectious and parasitic diseases. It is a bacteriostatic antibiotic. Unidox is available as tablets and can be obtained from a prescription.

Indications for use of the drug Unidox Solutab

The active substance of Unidox Solutab is doxycillin, an antibiotic with antibacterial properties. The drug is given to patients with:

  1. upper and lower respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis
  2. urinary tract infections
  3. genital tract infections, such as: uncomplicated infections of the urethra, cervix and anus, non-gonococcal urethritis, soft ulcer, syphilis (if penicillin is not recommended), uncomplicated gonorrhea (if penicillin is not recommended), inguinal granuloma, venereal granuloma,
  4. skin infections, including severe acne vulgaris if you need an antibiotic
  5. eye infections: conjunctivitis, digestive tract infections such as cholera, travelers’ diarrhea,
  6. as adjunctive therapy in amoeba infections,
  7. other infections – rickettsial diseases (such as typhus, typhoid rash, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Q fever and others), tick-borne fever, relapsing fever, brucellosis, ornithosis, plague, tularemia.

Note: Tetracyclines should not be used to treat infections caused by bacteria of the genus Salmonella.

Unidox Solutab – dosage

  1. Adults and children over 12 years of age weighing more than 50 kg:
  2. on the first day 200 mg in a single dose or in 2 divided doses, and then 100 mg once a day;
  3. in severe infections 200 mg daily for the entire treatment period.
  4. Children over 12 years of age weighing up to 50 kg:
  5. on the first day 4 mg / kg body weight in a single dose, and then 2 mg / kg body weight once a day throughout the treatment period.
  6. on the first day 200 mg in a single dose or in 2 divided doses, and then 100 mg once a day;
  7. in severe infections 200 mg daily for the entire treatment period.
  8. on the first day 4 mg / kg body weight in a single dose, and then 2 mg / kg body weight once a day throughout the treatment period.

Special recommendations:

  1. genital tract infections (sexually transmitted diseases with the exception of rectal infections in men): 100 mg twice a day for 2-7 days; for primary and secondary syphilis: 10 mg twice a day for 200 days.
  2. acne vulgaris: usually 50 mg daily for up to 12 weeks.

Unidox Solutab and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Unidox Solutab are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation or to any tetracyclines,
  2. severe liver dysfunction,
  3. severe renal failure coexisting with liver failure,
  4. age: do not use in children under 12 years of age,
  5. pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Unidox Solutab – warnings

  1. Caution is recommended when taking Unidox Solutab in patients with myasthenia gravis, systemic lupus erythematosus or in patients with porphyria, because the use of doxycycline may worsen the symptoms of the disease.
  2. Taking antibiotics, including doxycycline, may cause overgrowth of resistant bacteria and fungi (e.g. yeasts).
  3. People with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose should not use this preparation because it contains lactose.
  4. Unidox Solutab, in some cases, may cause dizziness and visual disturbances, which affects the ability to drive and use machines.
  5. Treatment with the drug may cause hypersensitivity reactions.
  6. In the case of venereal diseases and suspected parallel infection with gonorrhea and syphilis, the doctor will recommend appropriate laboratory tests.
  7. Do not use Unidox Solutab during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Unidox Solutab – side effects

Unidox Solutab is a drug that can cause, among other things: lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, indigestion, stomatitis, difficulty swallowing, rash, hives, itching, skin sensitivity to light (photodermatosis: erythema, edema, vesicles, rarely peeling of the skin), angioedema (possible swelling of the lips, tongue, throat, larynx, making it difficult to breathe), asthma, symptoms of serum sickness (fever, chills, muscle and joint pain, headache), thrombocytopenia, neutropenia (decrease in the number of neutrophils or neutrophils).
