Ung. Undecylenicum for ringworm. How to use?

Ung. Undecylenicum is used preventively and therapeutically in mycosis of the inguinal skin, feet, hands, head, topical forms of shearing mycosis, and tinea versicolor. Undecylenic acid and its salts contained in the drug have a fungicidal effect on the dermatophyte and weakly antibacterial. The preparation in the form of an ointment is available at a pharmacy without a prescription.

Ung. Undecylenicum – indications and dosage

Ung. Undecylenicum is used preventively and therapeutically in mycosis of the inguinal skin, feet, hands, head, topical forms of shearing mycosis, and tinea versicolor.

Dosage

1. It should be applied twice a day to the affected skin. Continue the treatment for a minimum of 2-2 weeks after the symptoms have disappeared.

Ung. Undecylenicum and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Ung. Undecylenicum:

1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
2. skin lesions with significant inflammation,
3. avoid use on mucous membranes and around the eyes and large areas of the skin, as well as in children up to 11 years of age.

Ung. Undecylenicum – warnings

1. Caution should be exercised in patients with impaired renal function.
2. In elderly people, due to thinning and dry skin, it is recommended to use Ung. Undecylenicumna small areas of the skin (there is a risk of increased absorption of undecylenic acid and its salts).
3. Due to the content of methyl and ethyl parahydroxybenzoate, the preparation may cause allergic reactions.
4. It should not be used in pregnant and breastfeeding women due to the lack of data on the safety of its use. Use in this group of women is possible only when, in the opinion of the doctor, it is necessary and the benefit for the mother outweighs the potential risk for the child.

Using Ung. Undecylenicum can cause:

1. skin irritation,
2. tingle,
3. rash
4. irritation of the mucous membranes,
5. Generalized hypersensitivity reactions with urticaria and bronchospasm may occur, if such reactions occur, treatment should be discontinued.
