However, there are more people willing to work in the health service, and almost 3 people have already signed up for the Postgraduate Medical Education Center, which conducts intensive lessons in the basics of medical Polish. people. According to doctors and linguists, too short time devoted to education may be an obstacle in adapting Ukrainian doctors.

Three thousand people willing to learn Polish
Free language learning is offered not only to doctors, but also dentists, paramedics, nurses and midwives. According to information from the ministry, 1424 people are already participating in the course, but almost three thousand are interested.
What do Polish doctors say? «Organizing online courses is a step in the right direction, but 45 hours is definitely not enough» — says Jerzy Wielgolewski, director of the district hospital in Maków Mazowiecki, quoted by the website praw.pl. — I have about 10 people from Ukraine who want to work in my hospital, I will gladly employ them, but some of them do not speak Polish at all, and communication with the patient and the team is the key — adds the hospital director.

45 hours of study instead of 500
According to the Center for the Teaching and Certification of Foreign Languages at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, approximately 1-80 hours of study are required to achieve the lowest level of language proficiency, i.e. A120. To know it on average, you need to spend 350-400 hours. However, it is still definitely not enough to be able to treat effectively and to be able to, for example, conduct an in-depth interview with the patient on, for example, past diseases. Doctors indicate that a minimum B2 level is required to work in health care. To achieve it, you need to spend at least 500 hours of study.
Mere language knowledge is not enough
Application? CMKP should increase the number of Polish language hours for medics. «We need to learn the language of both doctors and students from Ukraine. It is an essential tool for further study and work — underlines on the website praw.pl Piotr Winciunas, chairman of the Commission for Registration and Practice of the Occupation of the District Medical Council in Warsaw. In his opinion, a doctor without knowledge of the language is not able to properly issue prescriptions, referrals and, above all, guide the patient through the health care system.
Therefore, effective learning of the Polish language is not enough, additional measures are needed, which should be provided by the Ministry of Health, e.g. an adaptation internship and training in the administrative conditions of the Polish health care system.
