U-zone care

Everyone knows about the features of the T-zone of the face, and how to care for it is also more or less clear. It’s time to talk about the U-zone and find out if it requires special care.

What is U-zone

Place your index fingers at the tip of your chin and slide them up towards your temples, as if outlining your face. The resulting line resembles the Latin letter U – this is the very zone in question.

The division into zones is relevant for owners of mixed skin, in which different parts of the face differ in different levels of greasiness and moisture.

  • The T-zone (forehead and nose) is characterized by increased greasiness and a characteristic shine.

  • The U-zone (lower part of the chin, cheeks, cheekbones and temples) is prone to dryness, it lacks a healthy glow.

With mixed skin, the U-zone often lacks moisture and a healthy glow.

U-zone features

With a combination skin type, the U-zone may suffer from a lack of lipids and have a weakened protective barrier with all the ensuing consequences in the form of:

  • dryness

  • dehydration;

  • feelings of tightness;

  • peeling;

  • inflammatory eruptions.

In addition, such skin looks dull, and this largely determines our appearance. With high sensitivity to steroid hormones, acne-like rashes may appear here. But acne is a separate story.

How to take care of the U-zone

Owners of combination skin are forced to work on two fronts:

  1. pacify oily sheen on the nose and forehead;

  2. try not to dry the skin of the cheeks and prevent rashes in the lower part of the face.

Depending on the season, the contrast between the T- and U-zones can be so strong that you have to use two products at once: mattifying and moisturizing.

in winter

Oily sheen fades into the background, but the dryness of the skin in the U-zone increases to such an extent that it can cause a feeling of constant discomfort.

Choose lightweight moisturizing formulas that strengthen the skin’s hydrolipidic barrier and lock in moisture.

Moisturizing fluid for the face Ultra Facial Moisturizer, Kiehl’s – a universal product and suitable for everyone, as it is based on squalane, which is similar in composition to the natural component of skin lipids.

Lettom

In the hot season, all attention is concentrated on the T-zone, because with an increase in the temperature of the environment, the production of sebum increases. When reducing oily sheen, do not forget about moisturizing.

To solve two problems at once, look for lightweight formulas for combination skin that combine hydration with a matte finish.

Botanic Cream “Green Tea”, Garnier 96% consists of natural ingredients, removes oily sheen and effectively moisturizes the skin.

Cream-gel “Moisturizing Expert 24 hours”, L’Oréal Paris with vitamins C, E, B5, as well as magnesium and calcium, it has a light gel texture.

Night care

Deep hydration in the form of an aqua gel that replenishes moisture and strengthens the skin barrier with a small amount of oils is ideal.

One example is the Aqualia Thermal Night Spa, Vichy, which fills the cells with moisture and restores the barrier function of the skin.

Mask

For mixed skin, when there is a conflict between the T- and U-zones, try multi-masking:

  • apply a matting clay-based mask on oily areas;

  • on dry – gel. The main thing is that it is moisturizing and has a high-quality hydrofix in its composition.

We recommend matting mask Effaclar, La Roche-Posay with kaolin for the T-zone.

And a moisturizing soothing mask Hydra Zen Jelly, Lancôme – for the U-zone.
