Types, names and varieties of tulips
There are many types and varieties of tulips. The easiest way to classify them is by the time of flowering. In this case, each group is divided into several subgroups.
Names of early flowering tulip species
This group includes tulips that bloom at the end of April. They are of two types: simple and terry. The first subgroup includes medium-sized and low-growing plants with flowers in the form of glasses or ovals. Popular representatives of the subgroup are bright red “Cooler Cardinal”, yellow-scarlet “Mickey Mouse”, pale pink “Beauty Queen”.
Due to the abundance of species, tulips can be of all colors
Almost all varieties of double tulips are undersized. They are distinguished by beautiful “fluffy” flower petals. Popular varieties: peony “Foxtrot”, dark cherry “Largo”, creamy yellow tulip “Verona”.
In this category, which blooms closer to the May holidays, there are also two subgroups: “Darwin’s hybrids” and “Triumph”. “Darwin’s hybrids” – tall, with wide flowers, vaguely reminiscent of poppies in shape. They do not fade in bouquets for a long time and are well transported. Popular varieties: pale pink with a white border “Russian Princess”, ivory-colored tulips resistant to all misfortunes called “Ivory Floradale”, salmon-orange variety “May Lady”.
Tulips of the “Triumph” type are miniature, with beautiful neat buds. Popular varieties: rich yellow “Jan Van Nes”, maroon with a white border “Alexander Pushkin”, red with a yellow border “Denmark”.
Late flowering tulip species
There are many subgroups in this group:
- Simple. Ideal flowers for bouquets. An example of successful varieties: purple-black “Queen of Night”, carmine-pink “Catherine the Great”.
- Lily-colored. The petals are turned outward. Example: “Jacqueline” porcelain pink.
- Fringed. The petals are fringed. Example: yellow with red Flamenco stripes.
- Green-colored. The middle of the flowers is always green. Example: Spring Green Ivory Tulips.
- Rembrandt. The subgroup is distinguished by spotty buds. Example: red-yellow variety “Absalon”.
- Parrot. The petals resemble the plumage of budgies. Example: Fleming Perrot tulips with red stripes.
- Terry. Very similar to peonies. Example: Variety “Angelica” in the shade of a blossoming apple tree.
Please note that wild tulips do not belong to any of the groups described.
