A booster dose of COVID-19 vaccines has been taken by 8,5 million Poles, although over 21 million people are fully vaccinated. Some of them postpone vaccination because they are afraid of the ailments they struggled with after the first two doses. Among them is a MedTvoiLokony reader who wrote to us: – The first two doses of this vaccine just… crawled over me. I was afraid that it would be the same this time. The woman tells what prompted her to sign up for another vaccination and how she reacted to the booster. The entire letter is presented below.
- The reader of MedTvoiLokony was afraid to get the third dose because she felt very bad after the first two vaccinations
- The woman had, among others high fever and chills, she had a severe headache, and was unable to move her hand
- She was motivated to sign up for the third dose not only by the deteriorating epidemic situation related to the spread of Omicron
- The immediate reason for getting vaccinated was the desire to reduce the risk of developing the disease and the severe course of COVID-19 – the reader is a mother of a two-year-old who cannot be vaccinated yet
- The woman tells what ailments appeared after taking the Moderna booster. She also emphasizes that if you feel worse right after vaccination, it is a normal reaction of the body. Getting sick with COVID-19 is much worse and much more dangerous

“I was afraid of vaccinations”
At first, I have to confess. I was afraid of vaccinations. Not vaccination at all as vaccination, but specifically the third dose of covid vaccine. In social media, but also on internet portals, on TV, on the radio, everywhere you could find information that the symptoms after the booster are similar to those after the first two doses. And that the Moderna is the worst, otherwise supposedly the most effective (I follow all of Dr. Fiałek’s posts).
- Moderna or Pfizer? Which booster provides better protection?
Well, I was vaccinated with Moderna and I was going to continue it. Unfortunately, the first two doses of this vaccine just… crawled over me. I was afraid that it would be the same this time. So when an e-referral appeared in the system just before Christmas, I was in no hurry to choose the date of vaccination.

Motivation for adopting a booster: unvaccinated child
But the new year has started and all these gloomy reports of infection records and Omikron, which will probably make a lot of a mess for us as well. I have read that almost all of us will be infected with it soon and that without protection it can be different. More than six months have passed since my second dose, so the vaccine must have worked much worse than, for example, in the summer. And I at home I have an unvaccinated two-year-old who goes to nursery and regularly brings viruses from there. When I thought I could get very sick and not be able to take care of it, I got goosebumps. I cannot vaccinate him yet (although I am waiting impatiently for the vaccine for babies to appear), but I can vaccinate myself and thus ensure maximum safety for him.

However, for the next two weeks to sign up for the booster. Keeping in mind my passages, I was aiming on Friday to lie at home on the weekend and not have to deal with time off or vacation and the so-called Nursery logistics (with taking or picking up a child). Finally, I decided it was time to get over it. I signed up for Friday morning, got vaccinations, turned on my mental clock and … waited.
A reader about complaints after the first and second doses
After the first dose, I felt unwell after about 12 hours. from vaccination. The vaccine was injected after hours. 15, in the evening only my hand ached, and in the morning I had a fever, with which I lay overnight in total. I went through chills, sweats, dreams and other attractions. My head exploded. I didn’t even have the strength to reach for the water bottle that was lying next to the bed. Besides, I couldn’t move the hand in which the vaccine was administered. There was no question of getting to the toilet. Only after one day did the temperature drop below 38 degrees, which made getting out of bed comfortable. After a few hours, everything passed, I was only slightly weakened, dehydrated and very hungry.
After the second dose, the symptoms appeared even faster, three hours after the vaccination. First, I had a headache, I felt nauseous, I was smashed. The fever appeared after seven hours, then the scenario was analogous to the first time. Fever over 39 degrees. I haven’t felt so bad in my life. Even when I had COVID-19. It held exactly two days, then – as he took away with his hand.

“You can take three doses of Moderna and … do not regret it”
What happened to me after the third dose? In fact… no big deal. My arm and back hurt a bit, but I also worked at the computer all day. It was just a rather intense day, so I rarely got up from my desk – my spine felt it quickly. It wasn’t until the evening that a little ailments appeared. I felt a bit cold, the temperature rose a bit at night, but the highest was 37,6 degrees. It was operational.
The next day I had a headache and a bit of a crushI’d like to lie in bed that day, which I allowed myself to do for a moment. If it hadn’t been Saturday, I probably wouldn’t even have thought about it, but would just go to work normally and function as if nothing had happened.

It turned out that the booster is not as scary as it is painted. That you can take three doses of Moderna and … do not regret it. Have side effects after two doses and feel good after the third dose. Really good, because the awareness that my protection against COVID-19, and therefore dragging this trash home and infecting my son, has increased by several dozen percent, definitely improves the mood. Even if we are still exposed (because the nursery) and we may get infected (because Omikron), I can sleep well, because I have done everything I can to keep the coronavirus infection to a minimum and to make any possible infection as gentle as possible.
