Twinning of Tapas and Street Food

The Iberian Peninsula is the Mediterranean gastronomic reference par excellence and the event recently held in Madrid will help promote and disseminate the rich Portuguese-Spanish gastronomy.

The aperitifs are an emblem of the city of Madrid within the hospitality establishments, and as a champion, and bulwark of this gastronomic culture, the Madrid Tapa Academy has reached a twinning agreement with the Street Food Portugal Association, (Portugal Street Food Association).

It was last December 2 when the presidents of both entities signed the collaboration agreement, as part of a great brotherhood alliance.

The twinning protocol is based on strengthening the ties of union, and promoting collaboration in the different facets and areas where both associations operate, exchange of experiences, search for common initiatives, support and dissemination of gastronomic and tourist activity.

Iberian Culture is embodied in the founding statutes of both organizations, which base their basic principles on the promotion and maintenance of cultural, social and gastronomic values.

In these months of life, La Academia de la Tapa de Madrid, has not ceased in the effort to convert, and in many cases consolidate, the best ally of bars, into a reference with its own name within the community.

A long journey of food and good food

To seal the agreement the presidents of both associations, Mr. Joaquín Ruibérriz de Torres, from Madrid and Mr. Luis Rato, from the Portuguese, had an exquisite sample to the desserts of what the TAPA means in capital letters.

From the hand of Chef Enrique Pérez, the El Doncel de Sigüenza Restaurant, a unique aperitif berbena was made with its famous 4X4 torreznos, Smoked from Domínguez, Iberian from Guijuelo de Castro and González and cheeses from La Antigua, paired with Ribera del Duero wine from Bodegas Mambrilla and the excellent beer Checa Pilsner Urquell.

These ties to the sound of tapas are the first stone to not only enjoy and promote the products agro-food, but also develop and organize gastronomic meetings in different formats in both cities.

Life and in this case twinning reunites two cultures that once went hand in hand and now also under the European flag and with a very similar philosophy regarding the fundamental principles of the human being, Freedom, Democracy, Equality and the rule of law.
