The new subculture is tenderness, gullibility and friendliness in response to the cruelty of the world.
Twi is childhood, elevated to a cult. The word twee itself, derived from the childish pronunciation of the word sweet (English “sweet, cute”), sounds like a cooing chick. Adherents of this new subculture value immediacy in communication and expression of emotions, they strive to experience all feelings to the maximum. The Twi are not at all shy about their childishness. They are happy to wear bright things, T-shirts and bags with the image of cartoon characters. The naive image of Twi seems out of place against the backdrop of the complexity and contradictions of the surrounding world. But perhaps this emphasized irrelevance is their answer to the world.
