An expectorant preparation. Ephedrine is a substance that strongly relaxes and relaxes smooth muscles, mainly the bronchi. Additionally, it accelerates and deepens breathing. Thyme extract has an expectorant effect. Ingredients contained in licorice reduce surface tension and soften the mucus secreted in the upper respiratory tract, have anti-inflammatory, bacteriostatic and antiviral properties.

Further Tussipect has an anti-inflammatory and disinfecting effect on the mucosa of the mouth and throat. Saponins and sodium benzoate increase the secretion of the bronchial glands. The indications for use are respiratory diseases (inflammation of the respiratory tract and bronchi), cough.

Tussipect – form, dose, packaging

Syrup – 5 ml contains 662 mg of thyme liquid extract, 4,35 mg of ephedrine hydrochloride, 1,43 mg of saponins.

Pills – 1 tablet contains: 15 mg of ephedrine hydrochloride, 60 mg of dry licorice root extract, 72 mg of powdered licorice root, 12 mg of saponins, 16,7 mg of sodium benzoate.

Tussipect – dosage

Syrup: orally. Adults and children over 12 years of age: 5 ml 2-3 times a day (every 6-8 hours).

Pills: adults 2 tablets 3 times a day, children 1 tablet 3 times a day.

Tussipect – contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients is a contraindication to the use of the drug. Due to the content of ephedrine, the drug should not be used in hypertension, hyperthyroidism, angle-closure glaucoma, ischemic heart disease, diabetes, cardiac arrhythmias, prostatic hyperplasia, epilepsy and together with other preparations containing ephedrine.

Tussipect – side effects

  1. Ephedrine in the drug may cause: agitation, irritability, anxiety, hand tremors, dizziness, sleep disturbances, palpitations, increase in blood pressure.
  2. Due to the content of saponins, there is a possibility of irritation of the gastric mucosa, manifested by nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
  3. Some people may experience other side effects while taking this medicine.

Tussipect – interactions

The drug may cause interactions with cardiac glycosides or antihypertensive drugs, as well as with MAO inhibitors, ergot derivatives or oxytocin, salbutamol and other sympathetic drugs, acetazolamide and other urine alkalising compounds.

Tussipect – remarks

  1. Tussipect contains ephedrine and cannot be used during sports competitions.
  2. Due to the possibility of causing significant psychomotor agitation, the drug should not be used before and during driving or operating machinery.
  3. Do not use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
