TussiDrill for dry cough. How to dose the syrup?

TussiDrill is a drug used for acute, dry cough. The preparation is designed to reduce the frequency of persistent, unproductive cough. The drug contains a morphine derivative – dextromethorphan, which, through its antitussive effect, acts on the cough center in the medulla. Action after oral administration of the drug occurs after 15-30 minutes. The drug is in the form of a syrup for oral administration and is available without a prescription.

TussiDrill syrup is a preparation recommended for use in coughs:

Drug dosage

TussiDrill is a syrup to be taken by mouth. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the preparation as it may pose a threat to your life or health.

  1. Children after 6 years of age 1 mg / kg bw / d in 4 doses. division; single dose 0,25 mg / kg bw.

TussiDrill and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of TussiDrill are:

  1. allergy to any ingredient of the preparation,
  2. respiratory failure and the risk of its occurrence,
  3. asthmatic cough
  4. treatment with MAO inhibitors,
  5. the period of breastfeeding,
  6. should not be used in children under 6 years of age.

TussiDrill – warnings

  1. A doctor should be consulted if the cough does not improve within a few days.
  2. Alcohol (also contained in other medicinal preparations) should be avoided during treatment with TussiDrill.
  3. In people with hepatic insufficiency, the doses should be reduced initially by half, then (if necessary) the doses may be increased.
  4. A moist cough is an important defense element of the bronchial tubes, therefore it should not be suppressed.
  5. Before using TussiDrill, find out the cause of the cough (cough may require causal treatment, especially in cases of asthma or other lung or bronchial diseases).
  6. If the cough persists despite the recommended dose, see a doctor (do not increase the dose yourself).
  7. Expectorants or mucolytic preparations should not be taken during treatment with TussiDrill.
  8. Patients who have been diagnosed with an intolerance to some sugars should consult a doctor before taking the drug, because it contains maltitol.
  9. The methyl and propyl parahydroxybenzoate contained in the drug may cause allergic reactions.
  10. Pregnant women should not take the drug, especially in the third trimester of pregnancy. They can only use it after consulting a doctor and in the event that the doctor determines that the benefit for the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
  11. The use of the preparation is contraindicated during breastfeeding.
  12. The drug may cause drowsiness, dizziness and impair the ability to drive motor vehicles and impair psychophysical fitness. People who carry out activities that require concentration, such as driving a car, operating machinery and working at high altitude should take this into account.

TussiDrill with other drugs

  1. You should not take TussiDrill with MAO inhibitors.
  2. Do not consume alcohol during treatment with the preparation, as the sedative effect of the antitussive drug increases under the influence of alcohol.
  3. During simultaneous use with other drugs depressing the central nervous system (anxiolytics, neuroleptics, hypnotics, antidepressants, opioid analgesics, anticonvulsants, antihistamines of the older generation), the possibility of intensifying this effect, which may have an impact on the performance psychophysical.

TussiDrill – side effects

Taking TussiDrill may cause the following side effects:

  1. somnolence,
  2. dizziness,
  3. constipation
  4. nausea,
  5. vomiting,
  6. allergic reactions (rash, urticaria, angioedema, bronchospasm).
