Tullibardine (Туллибардин)

Tullibardine is a single malt whiskey from the Highlands region of Scotland. The manufacturer is the factory of the same name in Blackford, Perthshire. The brand gained popularity not so long ago, although its historical roots go back centuries. The peculiarity of the brand is old recipes and crystal clear natural water from a local source. The distillery produces several types of whiskey, as well as liquors based on them.

Historical information

The first mention of a brewery in Blackford dates back to 1488, when the English King James IV stopped in the village to buy a barrel of ale. The distillery was opened in 1798, but lasted only a year. Since then, there have been repeated attempts to establish the production of strong drinks in the town, but they all ended unsuccessfully. Only in 1949 did the designer William Delma Evans manage to build a new distillery, whose products began to be a success. The building was the first building of this magnitude in Scotland since the early XNUMXth century.

The enterprise used Evans’ own technological development – malt mash entered the workshop by gravity. This method is still used in the distillery. In 1953, the owner had to sell the plant due to poor health, and the company changed hands until it finally fell into disrepair. Full activity resumed only in 2003. The new owners modernized the production and updated the barrels, supplementing the stock with containers for dessert wine. In 2011, the plant was bought by the French wine company Picard Vins & Spirits.

Production features

The production uses the resources of natural springs flowing through the Ochil hills, where gold was once mined. Basalt and red sandstone serve as a natural filter that purifies the water and makes it crystal clear.

The company believes that 70% of the taste and aroma of a strong drink depends on the quality of the wood. Whiskey is aged in bourbon, sherry and sauternes containers. Barrels are carefully selected from the best distilleries and wineries in Europe. Blends are made with the addition of whiskey from stocks with a long exposure time, which have been fully preserved.

Interesting Facts

Paying tribute to tradition, Tullibardine worked with the Black Wolf Brewery to develop a premium ale called 1488. A drink with a strength of 7% is kept in barrels where whiskey was previously stored.

The Ochil Hills Spring is the first in the UK to be certified sustainable by the UK Soil Association. Since 2008, the resources of the spring have been used to produce Highland Spring bottled water. The brand has been ranked #XNUMX in The Good Shopping Guide’s Best UK Products for over a decade.
