Tulip Prince Candy: description
Tulip “Prince Candy” has earned special popularity among gardeners. This attractive primrose is quite unpretentious and does not cause much trouble to care for it. In addition, the variety is suitable not only for planting in open ground, but also for quick forcing in a greenhouse.

The variety belongs to the “Triumph” class. It tolerates spring frosts well and has excellent immunity to most diseases and pests. But the variety cannot be called frost-resistant, and in the northern regions it is recommended to cover it for the winter. As a rule, the tulip is grown to decorate flower beds and parks, but forcing in a greenhouse is also allowed. Although, due to its short stem, “Prince Candy” is not very suitable for cutting.

The flowering period begins in late April – early May. The stem of the culture reaches a height of 35-50 cm. A glass of medium size, classical shape, about 8-12 cm. The petals are ordinary, with a glossy sheen, a delicate mauve shade, but by the end of flowering a silvery border appears on them.

The plant should be planted in late September – early October. The exact date depends on the climatic conditions of the region. It is desirable that the soil temperature at a depth of 10 cm drops to 8-10 ° C. For a flower bed, choose a lighted area that is protected from drafts. Tulips do not tolerate stagnant moisture, so do not plant them in the lowlands.
In terms of soil, Prince Candy prefers light, fertile sandy loam or loamy soils. A month before planting, the site should be dug up and added to each square. m 10-15 kg of rotted manure or compost. Plant flowers this way:
- Dig holes 10-15 cm deep.
- Plant the bulbs, keeping a 10 cm distance between them.
- Sprinkle them with soil and moisten the soil well.
In regions with a cold climate, it is advisable to mulch the area with a layer of peat, and also cover it with spruce branches. The plant needs minimal care. To make the tulip feel good, it is enough to provide it with regular, moderate watering in the spring. It is advisable to periodically weed the flower bed and loosen the soil. During active growth, it will be useful to fertilize with mineral fertilizers.
The bulbs should be dug up annually. Clean after the leaves turn yellow.
Delicate “Prince Candy” will be a decoration of the site. It is enough to provide the tulip with minimal care and it will delight with its attractive appearance every spring.
