Tula fighting breed of geese
Tula fighting geese were bred in 1814. The wealthy Tula townspeople often had fun with goose fights. After crossing a gray goose and a goose with pronounced fighting qualities, dry-nosed, a real fighting breed crystallized.
What is good about the Tula breed of geese
Tula dogs are unpretentious to feed, not capricious in keeping. They tolerate cold well, are resilient and disease resistant. This breed has long been supported and bred by fans of goose fights. To this day, the cities lying along the Oka River and the rivers flowing into it are famous for the fighting clubs of geese. Competitions are regularly held here, gathering amateurs and breeders of this breed.
Selection selection, which lasted for many decades, gave three varieties of the breed:
- false-nosed – with a concave upper part of the beak, on which growths form in the frontal bone over time;
- straight-nosed – with a straight line of the upper part of the beak;
- hump-nosed or steep-nosed. They have a convex upper beak.
A characteristic exterior for Tula: a round, broad-forehead head with a short beak, a powerful neck, a powerful back and chest, stable legs and developed adjoining wings.
Two types prevail in color:
- brownish head, chest and neck; the bottom and belly are white. In this case, the color of the shoulders, wings and back can also be brown, but in a different shade. Feathers have a light border, the top of the tail is colored;
- coloration similar to the plumage of a wild gray goose. The color is iridescent with blue or black, feathers with a delicate white border. The bottom is white, the tail is gray. Perearkas are brighter in color.
As a source of eggs and meat, these geese cannot compete with other breeds. Geese lay up to 25 eggs, and the weight of the carcass is about 5,5-8 kg. Hump-nosed geese gain the most weight from Tula, and false-nosed geese give high-quality down. However, fighting geese were bred for a different purpose, with which they do an excellent job.
Old Russian fun – goose fights
The best of the best fighters are allowed to fight. This spectacle is spectacular, despite the fact that it is completely non-violent. There are rules for fights, violators of which will be disqualified. Therefore, there is no blood and severe trauma. The fight goes on until the moment when the enemy will run away.
Geese love to walk. You need to walk them regardless of the season. Flood meadows are best suited
Tula geese go into battle with their “support group”. Usually it is one or more favorite geese that inspire the fighters with their screams. According to the rules, a fighter must grab and hold the opponent’s wing, striking him with his free wings or wing in the torso and neck. Geese over 4 years old can participate in battles. The longer the battle lasts, the more worthy the opponents are and the higher their fighting qualities are regarded.
The traditions of goose fighting are preserved and supported by amateurs, as is the selection of the best birds for this spectacle.
