TTG rates during pregnancy, high, low hormone
TSH is a thyroid-stimulating hormone synthesized by the pituitary gland. When monitoring the health of a pregnant woman, doctors carefully monitor the TSH indicator. Why is this so important?
Why is TSH monitored during pregnancy?
During pregnancy, the entire female body is restructured, aimed at bearing a child. During this period, such profound changes occur that can lead to various complications and a deterioration in the well-being of the mother.
In order to prevent this from happening, the production and level of hormones are controlled. Particular attention is paid to the level of TSH in the blood of a pregnant woman, since an imbalance can lead to severe brain damage in the fetus and cretinism.
The hormone TSH during pregnancy promotes the production of the necessary hormones T3 and T4, increases their level, if necessary, ensures the normal functioning of the thyroid gland.
These hormones are involved in metabolic processes, regulate the functioning of the reproductive and cardiac systems, and affect the emotional state of the pregnant woman.
The level of T3 and T4 is constantly changing, therefore, the level of TSH is unstable, because they are closely related.
TSH norms during pregnancy: 0,4-4,0 mU / l. Often this figure is slightly lower than usual, especially for 10-12 weeks of gestation. A low level is determined only by a highly sensitive test. Sometimes a low TSH is observed throughout pregnancy. But if TSH is slightly elevated in a pregnant woman, then this is not considered a dangerous deviation.
TSH norms during pregnancy: what to do if there is a deviation?
So how do you recognize a critical change in hormone levels and what to do if it fluctuates?
The following signs indicate an increased TSH during pregnancy:
- fatigue;
- active weight gain;
- puffiness and pallor of the skin;
- weakness, nausea, constipation;
- sleep disturbance;
- noticeable thickening of the neck;
- loss of appetite.
In this case, you should contact your doctor supervising the pregnancy. If the tests show a significant increase in the level of the hormone, the necessary medication will be carried out to bring the TSH level back to normal.
It is strongly not recommended in such a case to self-medicate or treat with traditional medicine. You should be wary when the following are added to the symptoms that indicate malfunctioning of the thyroid gland:
- stomach upset;
- frequent headaches;
- trembling of hands;
- fever;
- cardiopalmus;
- imbalance and nervousness;
- frequent increase in blood pressure;
- there is no necessary weight gain or even weight loss is observed.
This indicates a low TSH during pregnancy. In this case, it is also necessary to inform the supervising doctor. Unfortunately, a decrease in hormone levels can also be asymptomatic. But the analysis carried out in the clinic will show the real picture, which will allow the doctor to make the necessary appointments and carry out full treatment until the required level of TSH in the blood of the pregnant woman is reached.
In any of these cases, a woman should be under the supervision of doctors. Maintaining thyroid-stimulating hormone at the proper level during pregnancy will be the key to the successful bearing and birth of a healthy child.
