PSYchology

Loving a person also means taking the risk of trusting him. At the same time, it is important for us to feel protected in a love relationship, not to be rejected by a partner. How do we balance the need for intimacy and security?

Psychologists from the University of Buffalo (USA) found that the style of behavior in the family depends on the self-esteem of partners. Those who have it high are not afraid to be dependent on another and are ready for intimacy. Those who have low self-esteem close inwardly: they involuntarily fear that the other person can hurt if they do not understand or reject their feelings. They prefer distance and coldness in relationships, although they suffer from a lack of support. Psychologists believe that only by adequately perceiving ourselves, we can realize both our needs — both in security and intimacy.
