True / False: what do you know about digestion?
A nap is great for digestion
False.
Everyone will have noticed that we tend to doze off in the early afternoon. This is also why some indulge in a nap, a restorative activity with multiple benefits. Generally, we associate this decrease in vigilance with digestion since we feel the first symptoms just after the midday meal. In reality, digestion has nothing to do with it.
In recent years, researchers have considered the nap to come from endogenous mechanisms, regulated by our biological clock.1. The need to sleep is therefore felt even if we have skipped the meal! Not only, the nap is not related to digestion, but in addition, it would not necessarily be beneficial at this level. If you lie down too early, the digestive fluid can rise up into the esophagus and cause unpleasant acid reflux.
