PSYchology

True desire is one of the popular concepts of worldly psychology. It is difficult to determine the content of the concept, since different authors put different, sometimes simply diametrically opposed, contents into these words.

The options are:

  • “biological” desires are true, the rest are far-fetched;
  • desires «from feelings, from the heart» — the same, the rest — «from the head»;
  • desires «reasonable, honest, noble» — and there are correct, and others — «from the evil one»;
  • “God has a plan for you,” in other words, the true desires are those of God;
  • true desire comes from the unconscious, and consciousness — only all lies;
  • true desires lead you along your Path (tao), while false desires distract you;
  • true desires relate personally to themselves and are experienced joyfully (T.V. Gagin adheres to this formulation);
  • the real desire is one and is connected with the highest value, and the rest are either its reflections or “false” desires;
  • desires are not a subject of conversation at all: do what you must, and let it be what should be.
  • True desire is that which has been suffered. «All true desire must be gained through suffering.»
