Trioxal is an antifungal drug. It belongs to the group of triazole derivatives. Trioxal is highly effective in combating dermatophytes and yeasts of various types, regardless of the place of their occurrence. For this reason, Trioxal is intended for oral use.
When should I use Trioxal?
Trioxal is recommended for the following symptoms:
- candidiasis (fungal disease) of the vulva or vagina,
- tinea versicolor,
- mycosis of the skin (including the feet, torso, hands),
- onychomycosis,
- fungal infection of the cornea,
- oral candidiasis,
- extensive organ or systemic mycosis.
How does Trioxal work?
Trioxal contains the active substance – itraconazole. This chemotherapeutic agent is effective against many species of pathogenic fungi and yeasts.
Trioxal works by inhibiting the synthesis of an organic compound called ergosterol, which is present in fungal cell membranes. This leads to visible damage to the structure of the fungal cell membrane, and consequently to their death.
Triaxol is easily absorbed by the human body.
When administered orally, it penetrates into tissues and organs, especially keratinized tissues such as skin or nails. It shows almost four times higher concentration than in the plasma.
How do you take Trioxal?
Trioxal is a medicine that is sold in the form of capsules to be taken by mouth. It is recommended to take Trioxal immediately after a meal; then the level of its absorption is optimal.
The level of absorption also depends on the degree of acidity of the environment. The higher the acidity level of gastric juices, the better Trioxal is absorbed. Antacids may reduce the level of absorption.
- Learn the causes of excess acidity
Therefore, it is recommended that you take Trioxal at least 2 hours after taking antacids or that you consume an acid-enhancing product (e.g. the popular Coca-Cola drink) before taking Trioxal.
Dosage of Trioxal
Take Trioxal exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The number of doses taken depends on the type of ailment and where it occurs. The usual doses for adult patients are as follows:
- mycosis of the vagina and vulva200 mg once a day for 3 days or 200 mg twice a day for 2 day,
- tinea pedis of the trunk: 200 mg once a day for 7 days or 100 mg once a day for 15 days,
