The first rule for colds is to drink plenty of fluids. But no matter how tasty the tea is, and no matter how useful the water is, you can’t drink a lot of these drinks. Woman’s Day found out what effective methods can be used to defeat the common cold.
Treatment of colds with folk remedies
If we really need to drink much more water during a cold than during normal times, we need to make sure that the treatment process takes place with pleasure. Various fruit drinks and compotes will help us with this. We have collected three of the healthiest ingredients.
Raspberry
Raspberries are great for relieving fever and inflammation. It, like aspirin, contains salicillates, albeit in small doses, which makes it an absolutely safe medicine, even for children. For the treatment of flu and colds, raspberry jam, as well as dry raspberries, leaves and plant branches are suitable. Tea with raspberry jam should be prepared at the rate of 2-3 teaspoons of jam per mug of water. A drink made from dry raspberries is prepared as follows: a tablespoon of raspberries is poured with a glass of boiling water and infused for 10-15 minutes. In addition to lowering the temperature, the raspberry drink is also a great thirst quencher.

Rosehip is rich in vitamin C, it is very effective in treating colds and boosting immunity. To get the maximum benefit, you need to brew the rose hips well in advance, for example, at night.
So, to prepare the infusion, you need to pour five tablespoons of rose hips into a container and pour them with a liter of boiling water. Let the mixture brew (ideally in a thermos) for 8-12 hours. Drink a few glasses of warm infusion a day or whenever thirst arises. The drink can be sweetened with honey, but only immediately before drinking. Rosehip is recommended to drink throughout the entire period of illness.
Another “famous” source of vitamin C is black currant. Blackcurrant tea is prepared according to the same principle as raspberry tea.
Linden
Linden flowers are ways to relieve sore throat and cough. Linden tea is prepared at the rate of: two teaspoons of linden blossom per mug of water. For variety, you can add lime blossom to regular black tea.

Honey and propolis
Honey and propolis are so rich in biologically active substances, vitamins and trace elements that at the initial stage, they can save from disease without additional help.
In case of flu and colds, it is recommended to drink tea with honey, and in case of angina, dissolve a small amount of propolis in the mouth (until it is completely dissolved). It is also useful to use propolis tincture (this is sold in pharmacies): dilute one tablespoon of the tincture with three tablespoons of warm water. Drink three to five times a day.
Fir oil
The essential components of fir oil effectively relieve respiratory tract spasms. Apply the oil externally, for example, to massage the chest, back and neck area above the collarbones during a cold. Fir oil is also useful for inhalation (3-4 drops of oil per inhalation).

Onion and garlic
Onions and garlic can also be used to treat flu and colds. During a flu epidemic, it is recommended to eat a small onion or a few cloves of garlic daily (provided that you do not have problems with digestion, gastrointestinal tract, thyroid gland and other contraindications). Onions and garlic contain natural herbal antibiotics.
All the folk remedies described above are by no means a panacea. However, they are quite effective and great for treating uncomplicated flu and colds. Can be used in addition to other doctor’s recommendations.

Diet
The temperature usually suppresses the appetite and then medicinal drugs and drinks come to the rescue. If the common cold is expressed by general weakness, sore throat and runny nose, then the health-improving diet will be accepted by the body with a bang. The diet is designed for seven days.
BREAKFAST
Include porridge in the diet: oatmeal, rice, millet (preferably with pumpkin), buckwheat and barley. For dessert – oatmeal jelly. And also compotes, fruit drinks or tea with jam in any quantity.
LUNCH
Do not neglect fresh vegetables and especially herbs. They are rich in fiber and perfectly cleanse the body of toxins. Be sure to drink chicken broth or any vegetarian soup. Unusual salads, such as apples with rutabaga and celery, beets with prunes, cabbage with carrots and lemon zest, will also perfectly restore strength. Compotes, teas, juices are required.
DINNERS
Try to eat the most healthy foods for dinner: steamed vegetables and fish, potatoes cooked in their skins with sauerkraut. Treat yourself to a soothing tea with thyme or oregano at night.
Let the seventh day of the diet become a fasting day. Drink fortified drinks throughout the day. If there is no temperature, go to the bathhouse and steam well. Have a good dinner, such as fish with potatoes and fresh salad. At night, have a cup of soothing tea and sleep. Tomorrow you will find a wonderful, cheerful and, most importantly, healthy morning!
