A fairly common cause of concern for mothers is hoarseness in children. Sometimes these are the consequences of the fact that the baby just screamed, but this fact can also be a manifestation of chronic or infectious diseases. It is imperative to show the child to the doctor.
Often the causes of hoarseness in children are diseases such as tracheitis, laryngitis, acute colds. Parents should be aware that in a small person, the larynx is still too narrow and with a tissue tumor, there is a risk of its complete overlap. Certain symptoms, combined with hoarseness, require an immediate call for an ambulance:
- barking cough
- very low deep voice
- difficulty swallowing
- heavy wheezing with sharp tearing movements of the chest
- increased salivation
Hoarseness often occurs in children with developmental disabilities, inhibited or hyperactive, with increased emotional excitability
After visiting a specialist and determining the diagnosis, most often children are prescribed drug treatment with sprays, lozenges or tablets. It can be a spray “Bioparox”, “Ingalipt”, which has an antiviral effect, tablets “Efizol”, “Lizak”, “Falimint”, soothing mucous membranes, and candies “Doctor Mom” or “Bronchicum”.
In addition to medication, it is important for a hoarse child to give a warm drink. It can be tea made from viburnum or raspberry, milk with butter, berry juice or just compote. Inhalation also does not interfere. It should only be understood that they can be done only if the baby does not have a temperature. Inhalation can be hot or cold. It is useful to breathe in pairs of sage, chamomile, calendula, as well as add essential oils of eucalyptus, tea tree, rosemary.
Regular tea does not soften the throat, it dries it out. With hoarseness, tea should only be herbal
Eases the pain and hoarseness of gargling. But this procedure is available only to older children who already know how to gargle on their own. You can rinse with decoctions of herbs or a solution of tea soda.
During treatment, it is necessary to create such conditions so that the child strains the vocal cords as little as possible. You can make warm compresses on the larynx (they go well with inhalation), but you should not keep it for a long time: no more than 7-10 minutes. Hoarseness, by the way, can be a symptom of thyroid disease, so before doing any procedure, consult your doctor.
If you follow all the doctor’s prescriptions and additional procedures in the form of rinsing, inhalations and warm drinks, you can avoid complications of the disease and help a hoarse child recover faster.
