What is candida albicans
Candida albicans is a diploid organism, it is a species of yeast that is usually found on the skin and lining of the mouth or vagina and within the stomach.
Candida albicans is therefore a fungal infection that causes candidiasis, too called candida overgrowth.
It is usually present in our intestinal system where it is part of our gut flora, that is, the balanced range of microorganisms that help us digest food and support the immune system in its daily work.
Candidiasis appears when this intestinal balance is upset and that the candida yeast eventually defeats other microorganisms. This has the effect of weakening our immune system and disrupting the digestion of our food.
In addition, the cells of candida emit toxic waste, such as the neurotoxin acetaldehyde, which can trigger a variety of symptoms in various places in your body.
During the rest of this article, I will refer to candida albicans simply called candidiasis.
Although there are various fungal organisms that are categorized under the term candida, it is candida albicans that is by far the most important organism to watch out for when it comes to yeast infection.
Defining candida albicans with precision is a delicate matter since this fungal infection can appear in three distinct forms.
3 distinct forms of candida
The most notorious are the yeast form (single yeast cells) and pathogenic fungal form (a more developed organism that has branch-like growths, known as hyphae).
La fungal form is more virulent and it is she who is generally responsible for the appearance of candidiasis.
On the other hand, the two variations of this fungus both emit the same list of some 79 degradation substances, which are all able to trigger the symptoms of candidiasis.
This ability to metamorphose that candida has gives it a clear advantage over other microorganisms since it allows it to survive extremely varied temperatures and pH degrees. It is for this reason that candidiasis is so difficult to treat.
Candidiasis can then appear on the skin, especially on the groin, the folds of the buttocks, the space between the breasts, toes, fingers and in the navel as an itchy red patch.
At the oral mucosa, it manifests by the formation of a thrush in the form of white patches inside the mouth, on the tongue, the palate and around the lips.
As for the vaginal or genital mucosa, it is manifested by a white discharge accompanied by itching, referred to as “vaginal yeast infection”.
Burning during urine output for infections of the mucous membranes of the urinary tract may also occur.
You will understand, the forms of candidiasis are very numerous.
Take the test: how do you know if you have candidiasis?
Before continuing. A little point on the terms.
Candidiasis: or rather candidiasis are a disease due to the development of candida albicans
Mycoses: is an infection caused by fungi very often candida albicans (again him).
There are 2 main types of yeast infection:
- Candidiasis : which affect the skin and mucous membranes
- Les dermatophytoses that affect the skin, the nails or the hair.
Candidiasis and mycosis are therefore more or less synonyms.
Symptoms linked to the multiplication of candida albicans
La candidiasis is a still relatively unknown infection. In any case in France. The Anglo-Saxon countries have a good head start on us when it comes to screening and treatment. (You will also find on this site many sources in English. And as I am bilingual I will present you the latest works from the United States for example)
There are different statistics, but according to the latest figures between 70% and 80% of the world’s population suffer from candidiasis. I know, this figure is surprising. Which also means you may be infected.
Why such a development of candidiasis?
There are a lot of reasons that candidiasis has grown exponentially. In mainly causes our fashions and eating habits.
Lmodern diet packed with sugar and refined products is a perfect ground for the development of candida
Added to this is the regular use of antibiotics.
We will see later that antiobotics also entail a very favorable ground for the development of candidiasis. In addition, the contraceptive pill, remedies against ulcers (cimetidine, etc.)
In addition, other drugs attacking the intestinal flora, hormonal changes during pregnancy, stress, the contraceptive pill… promote the multiplication of candida albicans.
As a fungus, its development is favored by the presence of sugar and moisture. Therefore, weight gain, increasing sweating, can promote its proliferation.
In general, candida albicans is benign but after multiplication, it becomes pathological.
They must be treated quickly to avoid any complications. In other words, a person can be a carrier of this fungus without being affected by candidiasis.
For a healthy person, candidiasis does not present a threat except in the rare cases when it seeps into the blood stream. This situation is then called candidemia. It can lead to sepsis.
Candidiasis can be fatal in immunocompromised, AIDS or cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or having had a bone transplant.
Other symptoms also add to the list of inconveniences, in particular digestive problems, cystitis, multiple infections due to a weakened immune system such as ENT infections, canker sores, chronic depression, etc.
But in all cases it is better to be safe than sorry.
Symptoms of candidiasis
- Great fatigue
- Headaches
- Balloons
- A sensation of pain in the genital tract
- Mycoses that recur
- Chronic eruptions
- Pain in the muscles
- Sexual dysfunction
- Feeling of weariness
Unfortunately, this is not an exhaustive list of all the symptoms of candidiasis. But this allows you to already have a good overview of the possible damage.
Headache, fatigue, maybe you are suffering from candidiasis?
In general, an antifungal treatment and the application of our advice is enough to treat candidiasis or slow down the proliferation of candida albicans.
If symptoms worsen, an anti-candida diet is recommended. In addition, the advice of a doctor is required before taking any medication whatsoever. Hydration is also an element that should not be neglected.
Finally, a healthy and sufficient diet as well as a impeccable hygiene of the body are effective preventions against candidiasis. Pregnant women are the most sensitive to vaginal mucous membranes, so they should follow specific treatment.
3-step plan of attack to beat candidiasis
Summary of our 3-step plan of attack
1
Le diet targeting candidiasis may seem a little restrictive at first, especially if you decide to start with a detox.
On the other hand, what will really make the difference in the fight against the overgrowth of candidiasis is a healthy diet low in sugar.
The main things to avoid are fruits, starches and all added sugars. There is a lot of other information to take note of. Once you start to scrutinize your food choices, you might be amazed at the ingredients they contain.
2
What do we want say by probiotics? The easiest way to explain how they work is to understand that they are healthy bacteria that are part of your gut flora.
When you suffer from candidiasis, these microorganisms within your intestinal flora are destabilized. Adding a rich source of probiotics to your diet (either in the form of supplements or through the consumption of probiotic foods) will allow your intestinal flora to regain its balance and to maintain the presence of these active and healthy organisms.
3
It is not necessary also not neglect the usefulness of antifungals. It is necessary to follow antifungal treatments because your diet and probiotics alone will not be enough to reverse your overgrowth of candidiasis.
Most antifungals share the same mode of operation: they weaken the membranes of candidiasis cells. On the other hand, antifungals follow each other and are not alike, I will explain how natural antifungals can be more effective (and cause fewer side effects) than pharmaceutical antifungals.
1-Anti candidiasis and detoxification diet
Body detoxification
During the first phase, we will also look at the body detoxification. The trick is to prepare even his detox drink.
There are many. Here I offer you a proven detoxifier: Watermelon-lemon-mint and of course water
Why watermelon:
Watermelon allows the body to flush out toxins because it contains an ingredient called citrulline, which is a non-proteinogenic amino acid. Which allows the liver to detoxify.
Why the lemon
Lemon helps stimulate the digestive system and in candidiasis, the digestive system is often upside down. Another positive effect of lemon is that it regulates constipation, heartburn and bloating.
- 1 to 2 liters of water. It all depends on whether you want your drink strong or softer
- A piece of watermelon or cucumber
- 1 lemon or lime
- 15 mint leaves
- Some ice cubes
Preparation
- Cut a good piece of watermelon (into cubes) that you will put in a large pitcher
- Cut a lime into quarters, place it with the watermelon
- Put the mint leaves
- Add 1 to 2 liters of water
- Let stand overnight in the fridge
- The next day add the ice cubes
- It’s ready
A real treat to start off with
Basic colon detox takes 1 to 2 weeks. As soon as it ends you will be able to start taking probiotics and antifungals.
During the initial stage of detoxification, you may experience some symptoms of abrupt elimination. It is for this reason that I recommend taking high-end detoxification supplements from the start of treatment, since this precaution will reduce or completely eliminate the onset of such symptoms.
Here are the key steps in an effective detox diet:
- Consume raw salads and steamed vegetables
- Drink lots of water
- Preferably choose organic products
- Continue detoxification for 3 to 10 days
Rebalancing and diet
It is necessary that start on a good basis, we are not going to develop our plan of attack on a bad foundation. This first step is therefore very important. It will solidify and get you used to adopting the right habits.
With our increasingly stressful and hectic lives, it is very easy to develop certain bad eating habits that will lead to the development of candida. I am of course talking about all the products already cooked, with too much salt and especially too much sugar.
During our food rebalancing, we will therefore focus on a vegetable-based diet mostly green and therefore rich in fiber. If you can, it is best to buy organic products.
You can make this first phase last a week. You may be hungry, so add one or two eggs a day to add protein to your diet.
This is a big part of your new diet. Hope you like vegetables 🙂
So here’s a quick reminder of this section of the treatment, before moving on to the specific list of foods to eat or avoid.
You’re hardly going to like the message, but now is the time to say goodbye to cheese, alcohol, chocolate and all the sweet treats you have loved so much for so long.
The difficulty is that all of these foods are particularly attractive to you, but they even more attract the candidiasis cells that are present in your gut flora. VS
This means that every time you unleash a craving, you are also simultaneously giving a feast to the voracious pathogens that inhabit your intestinal system.
Foods to focus on
- Vegetables that are not starchy foods (asparagus, broccoli, eggplants, onions, etc.)
- Probiotic yogurt with live ferments (no added sugar)
- Lean meats
- Gluten-free grains (try buckwheat, quinoa, or millet)
- Herbs / spices / condiments
- Herbal teas
- Plant sweeteners (stevia and xylitol
Foods to avoid
- Sugars (this includes syrups, chocolate, honey, and all added sugars)
- The alcohol
- Grains and foods containing gluten (anything made from wheat, rye, oats, barley, or corn)
- Fruits (a squeezed lemon is not a problem, but most fruits have too high a sugar content
- Starchy foods (potatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes and peas
- Deli meats and processed meat products
- Seafood and fish from aquaculture
- Additives and preservatives (anything with ingredients that don’t look like food at all, basically!
- Condiments and seasonings that contain sugar
- Tea and coffee
2-Use of probiotics
What do we mean when we talk about overgrowth of candidiasis? Simply put, these are basically situations where candida-like yeasts grow out of control and threaten the healthy bacteria in your gut flora.
Deprived of space and sustenance, these healthy bacteria eventually disappear. Very quickly the bacterium candida albicans takes over in your intestinal flora and eliminates other bacteria, and an overgrowth of candidiasis takes place.
Probiotics: a boost for your immune system
Scientific research has shown that the presence of adequate levels of bacteria stimulates the immune system and helps the body fight pathogens. Researchers see two reasons for this.
In the first place it is estimated that healthy bacteria encourage the activity of the immune system and thus help the body to react to new infections.
Secondly, it is also believed, at the same time, that probiotics manage to maintain the acidity of the intestinal system through the production of substances such as lactic acid. This acidity suppresses the development of pathogens such as candidiasis.
Probiotics suppress candidiasis
A massive supply of bacteria beneficial to the intestinal flora creates a competitive environment within it, in which each microorganism competes for space and sustenance.
This is how the probiotics that benefit us use up space and resources that would otherwise have been taken up by the candida yeast. That is why I recommend the regular use of a probiotic containing a high level of bacteria.
How to choose the right probiotics
Probiotics follow each other and are not alike. It is not uncommon to pay gold prices for a product that turns out to be of poor quality.
Likewise, luckily there are some great products out there that won’t break the bank. In particular, there are a brand or two that offer flawless quality, good value for money, and excellent store availability.
Additional information on these products is available to you by viewing my program. Here is some of this information, the most essential when shopping, as a guide.
Please note that the criteria I will present to you are applicable to lactic acid-based probiotics.
Probiotics made from soil layers work in a different way because they are much more resistant to absorption and descent into the intestinal system. This means that they do not require refrigeration and are equally effective even with a much lower rate of bacteria in each capsule.
3-Antifungals
A suitable diet, low in sugar and carbohydrates, represents such a complementary effort. Likewise, quality antifungal treatment can complete the plan of attack.
How does an antifungal work?
Most antifungals work by weakening the cell walls of yeasts such as candidiasis. Once the wall weakens, the cell does not last long and it is eliminated by your immune system.
Your doctor may prescribe a pharmaceutical antifungal drug – Nystatin can be an example.
On the other hand, if these products are effective in eliminating yeast cells, they also have side effects which are not negligible.
Yeast cells, after all, are not much different from our own cells. It is therefore extremely difficult to develop an antifungal that is able to attack the pathogen without also damaging our own cells.
If on the other hand natural antifungals appeal to you more, it is reassuring to know that there are many types on the market that you can try.
They generally have far fewer side effects, are available without a prescription, and are nonetheless formidable yeast eliminators.
What natural antifungals?
If you are going with natural antifungals, there is some information you should know.
First of all, it is perfectly possible to combine these antifungals and take more than one at the same time. Natural remedies are much milder than prescription drugs; combining the antifungals you use increase the ability of your immune system to fight candidiasis.
Then you should always remember that it is better to start with low doses and increase them thereafter: you will avoid any risk of being struck by symptoms of too sudden elimination.
There are a lot of natural antifungals. Here we will see only 2 but particularly powerful.
Caprylic acid
This is one of the active ingredients in coconut oil, and this product is available in tablet form.
You can also instead choose to just absorb 2-3 tablespoons of high quality virgin coconut oil each morning. A 2007 scientific study established beyond a doubt the effectiveness of coconut oil and caprylic acid against candidiasis.
The conclusion of this report was indeed that “coconut oil should be used systematically in the treatment against fungal infections”.
Oregano oil
Oregano oil is commonly sold in most vitamin and supplement stores, usually in capsule form. Studies have shown the effectiveness of oregano oil against a variety of fungal infections. It is a particularly powerful antifungal.
Antifungal creams
The local treatment of candidiasis can be carried out with creams or shampoos to be applied to the areas to be treated such as the lips, skin, vaginal cavity, etc. General antifungals come in several forms such as ova, tablets, etc.
Whatever the type of treatment, the taking of these drugs and the duration of the treatments differ according to the drug prescribed but also according to the patient to be treated.
Drugs of short duration, which act more quickly, given the fact that they contain a fairly high amount of active ingredients can be prescribed.
This type of treatment is the most practical, insofar as it is ephemeral and does not constitute a source of inconvenience. Long-term treatments are on the other hand indicated in vulnerable patients such as pregnant or breastfeeding women.
In open treatment, the drugs are based on antifungal substances such as clotrimazole or miconazole. The choice of medication depends on the patient’s habits and health conditions. The drugs are thus prescribed in different dosages and dosages, generally from 1 to 7 days.
Long-term treatments can vary from several weeks to several months, depending on the drug. In a practitioner, the type of treatment will depend on the patient’s health conditions.
The active ingredients used are also to antifungal base the most frequently used of which are butoconazoles and tercanazoles.
The 11 best natural solutions to eliminate candida (BONUS)
Home remedies or recipes
Most important in the treatment of candida is the fact that “you, me, us” can cure it in a natural way, by preparing recipes for “homemade” dishes. Indeed, there are a thousand and one ways to prepare miraculous recipes to effectively fight against candida albicans.
These recipes include the main ingredients that promote the proliferation of good bacteria and the elimination of yeasts in humid and hot areas of our body.
Natural yogurt
With that, in the first recipe is the plain yogurt (2). Indeed, the latter contains many bacteria which make it possible to fight effectively against the degradation of yeast. In addition, plain yogurt can also be applied internally or externally.
Speaking of which, I advise you to add half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to your yogurt before applying it. Regardless, it is always recommended to consume plain, sugar-free yogurt to keep you healthy.
Lavender
In addition, the lavender recipe is also found to be a natural “home” remedy for candida. To prepare it, all you need to do is boil a bunch of fresh or dry lavender in a liter of water, for a maximum of 10 minutes.
Once cooled, you can use the preparation by adding it to your bath, or simply by gently rinsing the affected area.
Apart from plain yogurt and the particular virtues of lavender, you can also cure this infection by opting for an anti-candidiasis diet.
Other than that, to complement these home remedies, you can only consume the preferred foods before, during, or even after treatment for candidiasis. In this regard, I offer you a list of foods to consume.
- Spices, herbs
- Lean meats
- Grains like millet, buckwheat
- Herbal teas
Obviously, the foods to avoid are those that contain a significant amount of sugar such as honey, chocolate, syrups. You should also avoid foods that contain gluten (barley, oats, wheat, corn, etc.), starches (peas, potatoes, cassava, etc.), seafood, as well as preservatives. and different additive products. Alcohol, tea and coffee should also be avoided in order to effectively treat candida albicans.
Natural antifungals against candida albicans
First of all, candida albicans or candidiasis is a yeast present in our body, but in small quantities. However, when we suffer from certain pathologies like diabetes, obesity… it can quickly increase in size to form a fungus in the humid and warm areas of our body.
The berbérine
Among these is for example berberine, a natural antifungal extracted from barberry. A powerful natural remedy to treat candidiasis, berberine is known for its exceptional virtues against the proliferation of viruses, bacteria and yeasts in our body.
Garlic
Opt for garlic (2), a natural antifungal that is ubiquitous in your familiar surroundings. A powerful antibacterial, garlic is a pleasant solution available to everyone. However, for more efficiency, I advise you to consume it in its natural state once or twice a day. To do this, you can add it raw or cooked in your meal or dinner.
Turmeric
Like garlic and berberine, turmeric is also a natural antifungal and effective in combating this problem. In addition, it helps to multiply the good bacteria and anti-candidiasis yeasts in our body. With that said, you just need to put a teaspoon of pure turmeric powder mixed with a few drops of the oil in a glass of lukewarm water. By opting for this solution, it only took me two days to cure my candidiasis.
The effective food supplements to fight against candidiasis
grapefruit seed extract
If there are other natural solutions that not only allow us to heal easily, it would be food supplements. Among these is, for example, grapefruit seed extract. According to research results published by “the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine”, this supplement provides lasting benefits on our health.
caprylic acid
Caprylic acid is also among the best natural remedies or dietary supplements for candidiasis. Moreover, it is often used by natural health professionals, as well as nutritionists, given its exceptional antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial properties. Indeed, naturally present in breast milk, in palm oil … caprylic acid is the ideal solution to rebalance bacteria and to prevent excess yeast in our body.
spiruline and chlorella
In addition, food supplements based on algae are highly recommended to permanently cure candida. In this regard, I invite you to discover the properties of two particular green algae, namely spirulina and chlorella. Reference food supplements, these algae contain all the nutrients, minerals, or trace elements necessary to treat and prevent candidiasis, as well as other infections or different diseases.
aloe vera, milk thistle, shiitake
Apart from Chlorella and Spirulina, you can also opt for herbal food supplements which have exceptional virtues in natural treatment. Between black walnut, aloe vera, milk thistle, shiitake, green chirette… the list of plants against candida albicans is almost long. Either way, I hope you will find the ideal solution here that allows you to cure your infection quickly and efficiently.
Probiotics … again and again
Indeed, considered to be beneficial bacteria, probiotics have everything you need to naturally treat candidiasis. Indeed, they offer you a considerable supply of bacteria favorable to your intestinal flora. To do this, their main purpose is to recover the spaces occupied and the resources absorbed by the yeast of the “candida” type in a particular area of your body.
However, the ideal is to get probiotics that have a higher rate of bacteria in order to boost its effects and actions. In this regard, you can for example opt for lauctobacillus acidophilus (4), a good quality probiotic to consume before breakfast. Thereafter, if candida albicans returns cyclically, I recommend that you take exclusively one cranberry acidophilus capsule each morning before breakfast.
Relaxation and stress reduction
Today, many people find that candida-related symptoms become dramatically worse when they face a stressful time in their daily work or personal life.
Indeed, when we live under constant stress, our immune systems no longer manage to function normally.
In fact, the more we are stressed, the more our adrenalins rise and the more we release a massive amount of sugar which will subsequently feed the yeast. In addition, in times of stress, we tend to consume comfort foods (rich in sugar, additives, seasonings, etc.)
So, even if it does not seem obvious and especially difficult in most cases, taking a step back, relaxing can be a natural solution par excellence to heal yourself.
In this regard, I invite you to devote a little more of your time to entertaining, comforting and relaxing activities. Among these, you can for example leave everything behind you, then find comfort and relaxation at a SPA salon in which you will enjoy a massage session, sauna which only offers you good.
Then you can also practice your favorite sport at the end of the weekend, or opt for time for a walk, a picnic in a comforting natural setting. In addition, if you are a follower of spiritual and mental practice, I exclusively suggest that you opt for a meditation session in order to relax and unwind at any time. In addition, the benefits of meditation can easily permeate your daily life.
Also, simple exercises like deep breathing can go a long way in helping you cope better with stressful situations. You can also opt for natural treatments, the practice of which has just become the heart of the trend. In this regard, many solutions are available to you:
- Acupuncture
- aromatherapy
- Shiatsu
- reflexology
In conclusion, yeast infection is not necessarily difficult to treat. In this case, the best way to treat it is to attack it on several facades. No matter what solutions you choose, I recommend that you make the best possible changes to your diet by avoiding sugar, refined carbohydrates, and other foods that promote the growth of yeast that is the source of candidiasis.
