Protective vaccinations are a safe and effective method of avoiding contracting serious infectious diseases that do not occur in our region. Routine travel vaccination – what and how much does it cost?

Going abroad is the perfect occasion to look at your immunization record book and see which of your childhood vaccinations have already expired. Not everyone knows that compulsory vaccinations performed during the school period protected the body for a certain period of time and it is advisable to perform them again after some time. Therefore, it is recommended to vaccinate against:

  1. tetanus and diphtheria – vaccination is performed in one or three doses. The number of doses depends on whether the vaccine is a booster or the first time it is given. Every traveler should be protected against tetanus and diphtheria. Almost any travel injury can carry a tetanus risk. One dose of the vaccine against tetanus and diphtheria costs about PLN 80;
  2. hepatitis B – this serious infectious disease occurs practically all over the world. The highest risk of the disease occurs in all African countries, in southern Asia, and in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The vaccine is given in three doses. One dose costs about PLN 80;
  3. measles, mumps, rubella – these are the three infectious diseases against which we are vaccinated in childhood. Vaccines against these diseases belong to the group of compulsory vaccinations and are free until the age of 19. Vaccination for adults costs about PLN 130;
  4. polio – is a serious infection of the digestive tract, and often of the central nervous system. The infection occurs mainly through the ingestion. In 2009, 4 countries were identified where the spread of polio strains has never stopped. These countries are: Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan. One dose of polio vaccine costs about PLN 100.

Typhoid fever – how much does the trip vaccination cost?

Typhoid fever is an acute, systemic, infectious disease. Its symptom is a growing fever, headache, malaise and loss of appetite. Typhoid fever occurs all over the world, but the risk of contracting the disease mainly occurs in places with poor hygiene, especially where food is served. The greatest risk for travelers is in South Asia and Africa.

Other developing countries in Asia and Latin America are also at high risk. Typhoid vaccine can be injected or given by mouth. The dose of the vaccine against typhoid fever costs about PLN 240.

Cholera is an acute infectious disease that mainly affects the digestive system. Its course is so severe that, unlike other diseases that cause diarrhea, cholera can lead to the death of the patient within several hours to several days. Cholera is manifested by vomiting and watery diarrhea. This disease occurs in developing countries: Africa, Asia, South and Central America.

Currently, cholera most often occurs as an epidemic in areas with low levels of hygiene and sanitation. The cholera vaccine is given orally in two doses. However, the dose of the vaccine costs about PLN 150.

Meningococcal infections – how much does the trip vaccination cost?

Meningococci are bacteria that cause serious infections such as meningitis and sepsis. The disease is transmitted through airborne droplets and direct contact with the sick person. Symptoms of meningococcal disease include sudden, paroxysmal fever, severe headache, stiff neck, nausea and frequent vomiting. Meningococcal strains are found all over the world. One dose of the vaccine against meningococcal infections costs about PLN 230.

Yellow fever – how much does the trip vaccination cost?

Yellow fever is also called yellow fever. It is a serious infectious disease that spreads to humans through the sting of a mosquito infected with virus. The course of the disease can be asymptomatic, but it can also be fatal. The incubation period of the disease is 3 to 6 days.

The symptoms of yellow fever are fever, headache, chills, nausea, weakness, yellowing of the skin and reddening of the conjunctiva. This disease is most common in the countries of Africa, South and Central America. Yellow fever vaccine is taken once in a lifetime in one dose. This vaccine costs about PLN 250.

Tick-borne encephalitis – how much does the trip vaccination cost?

Tick-borne encephalitis is a viral disease of the central nervous system. It is spread by ticks, but can also be infected by eating unpasteurized dairy products. The disease is clearly divided into two phases. First there are flu-like symptoms and then there is a temporary improvement. Some people in the second phase experience headache, fever, vomiting, nausea, loss of consciousness, and a complex of neurological symptoms.

The risk of tick-borne encephalitis increases when living in tick habitats, such as tall grasses, thickets and deciduous forests. Vaccination involves the administration of three doses of the preparation. One dose of TBE vaccine costs about PLN 140.
