Tranxene is a trade name for a prescription-only psychotropic drug. The active substance of the preparation is clorazepate. Tranxene is not reimbursed by the National Health Fund.

How does Tranxene work?

The active substance of the drug is clorazepate (clorazepan) in the form of clorazepate dipotassium salt. Clorazepate is an organic compound belonging to the group of benzodiazepine derivatives. It has a typical anxiolytic effect. Lowers muscle tension, it does action sedative, hypnotic, anticonvulsant, it relieves anxiety and induces retrograde amnesia. It acts as an agonist at the GABA-omega receptors in the complex, which are a type of nerve conduction inhibitory receptor. The active metabolite of the drug is formed in the stomach by the decarboxylation process. Also in the case of administration by injection the drug works when it is converted to its active metabolite, desmethyldiazepam.

How is Tranxene used?
