Small-sized housing requires a particularly balanced approach to the choice of furniture. Not only does it have to be beautiful and comfortable. They must be functional. More functional furniture than a transforming table is difficult to imagine. Not only are there models that increase in size, there are those in which it is difficult to suspect the presence of a table top.
Transformer table for kitchen and living room
Transformable furniture is relevant for small spaces. It helps you make the most of the available space. The kitchen is often small. Here you have to twist in order to fit all the necessary components into a limited space.
Folding models
The hardest thing to fit in a small kitchen is a dining table: it takes up too much space, and you also need to put chairs … A good way out is a sliding or folding transforming table. They differ in the mechanism of transformation. In the folding part of the tabletop is attached to the hinges. It turns out that in the folded state, part of the table “hangs” on hinges or is laid on / under another part of the table.
One of the well-known options is a folding table-book (one of the options in the photo above). This is when the central part of the table is fixed, and the side ones are attached to it with the help of loops. If necessary, one of the movable legs extends, raising the fixed table top.
Another option – the tabletop consists of several identical parts, also fastened together with loops. The difference is that they lie on top of each other. Legs in such furniture are sliding. Extend the legs to a certain distance, lay out the countertop.
The tabletop is divided into two or three fragments. Depending on the width, it can be used as a small table in the kitchen, or as a console, as in the photo above.
Sliding and console table
The difference in this group is not fundamental, but the principle of transformation is different. These tables have a sliding base and a number of inserts with which the table top is built up. This design is also called a console table.
This type of transformer table is convenient. When folded, it takes up very little space. For example, if you fold the table shown in the photo above, the width will be equal to the width of the two folded end pieces. Additional legs and inserts are placed just in these end parts. You can move it apart, depending on your wishes, by installing one, two or more inserts. Many guests came to you – they put them all to bed. We need two additional places – only one.
There are also sliding models simpler. They just move apart a little and the dining table of a modest size becomes a little larger. Similar transformation mechanisms are used for both round and rectangular models.
With pull-out table
Another way to increase the area of uXNUMXbuXNUMXba dining or coffee table is to hide part of the countertop under the main part of it. You need a large area – it was pulled out. That’s just not all such models have a mechanism that allows you to make sure that the extended part of the table is on the same level with the “main”.

A transforming coffee / dining table is popular, since it is not always possible to separate a dining room in an apartment. And putting a dining table in the living room is not the best design move. Work and computer
In a small apartment it is not always easy to find a workplace. For such cases, there is a folding computer or desktop. In the stationary part there are shelves on which you can place books, a computer, a laptop, and other office equipment. There are models with closed shelves on the side. This is a small wardrobe with a table “in one bottle.”

Another idea that allows you to turn a small closet into a solid workplace is a retractable countertop. In a compact state, it hides under the “main”. When it is necessary to increase the size of the table, it is simply put forward. Basically, a rotary mechanism is used here, but there are models with a retractable one.
For easier movement, the legs that need to be moved are equipped with wheels. You just need to look so that the soft floor covering does not fall into the “field of action” of the wheels. There is a transforming table in the form of a chest of drawers, in which a workplace is equipped. Since work today is almost always associated with office equipment, there is where to place the screen, keyboard, system unit. And you can even place a couple of laptops.
Due to the hinged lid, the working surface of a small table can be significantly increased. Just do not put serious office equipment on the folding part. It is better to place it on the “stationary” part.
Chest of drawers
Another option for organizing a workplace is a chest of drawers with a folding tabletop. For small apartments – a godsend. You can put it in a walk-through place and use the drawers for their intended purpose. When you need to sit down with a laptop or notebook, raise the tabletop, extend the stop leg. You can work. Classes are over, the leg is pushed into place, the tabletop is lowered. A chest of drawers takes up a minimum of space – 60-80 cm, depending on the depth of the drawers.
The second variation is pictured on the right. Here the lid rises on metal stops. The disadvantage of this design is that the boxes are smaller in size, since the sides are occupied by a folding mechanism. Dignity – it would never occur to anyone that this nightstand can turn into a table.
Transforming table with upholstered furniture
An interesting idea is to make a sofa that turns into a table. Rather, the table is attached so that in the closed position it hides behind the back of the sofa. In this state, this is an ordinary (well, almost) sofa. If you need a workplace, throw the back forward.
By the same principle, a chair-table is made. It just has a smaller width. Some models allow you to move the countertop forward without folding the bed. A great option if you like to have breakfast in bed.
A more spartan, but no less original way is to attach a countertop to the back of the sofa from the back. A full-fledged workplace will not work, but you can put a laptop, a couple of notebooks and books. For schoolchildren, this is not an option, but for students or those who want to surf the net, it is very good.
In this option, there is one “but”. The sofa should be in the middle of the room. In any case, the distance from the wall should be at least a meter. This is possible if the back of the sofa is a zone separator in a studio apartment.
For baby feeding
There is a transforming chair for feeding a child. He has two positions. The first is a low table with a seat. This option is good when the child can already or tries to eat on his own. In this position, there is a fairly large countertop on which you can put a plate. In this position, the table and chair are low, you can leave the child himself.
In the second position, the chair is high – the seat is located at the level of a regular dining table. This option is suitable for a joint meal with adults when mom is nearby. Sometimes they have wheels for easy movement, but some factories produce without them. They have
The disadvantage of this model is that the table and chair are fastened together. There is no way to separate them. Then both the table and the chair will be unstable. This problem is solved in another model. Here the table is turned upside down, a chair is inserted into it. They are held by a cunning system of interlacing the legs of the chair and table.
This type is good in that the table and chair can stand separately and, when the children grow up, they can be used as ordinary children’s furniture.
