Trajenta is a medicine that belongs to the group of oral antidiabetic drugs.

What is the composition and action of Trajenta?

The active substance in Trajenta is linagliptin. It is a substance that has the effect of lowering blood glucose levels.

When is Trajenta used?

Trajenta is an oral diabetes medication. It is used to treat type 2 diabetes in adults when they are no longer able to control their glycemic levels with diet alone or with one diabetes medicine. Trajentę is also given to patients with type 2 diabetes for whom metformin used in other diabetes medicines is not appropriate because of intolerance or because of kidney failure. The drug is also used in the combination therapy of diabetes mellitus, in combination with metformin and insulin.

Dosage of Trajenta

Trajenta is in the form of tablets. The dose and frequency of use of the drug is selected by the doctor individually for the patient. Trajentę can be taken with or without food. The film-coated tablets can be divided in half. The dosing instructions given by your doctor should be followed carefully. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, do not use a double dose of the drug to make up for the forgotten one. Trajenta should be discontinued gradually – sudden discontinuation of use may increase your blood sugar.

Contraindications to the use of Trajenta

Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation is a contraindication to taking Trajenta. It should not be used in patients taking carbamazepine, phenobarbital or phenytoin, medicines used to treat epilepsy and chronic pain. Contraindication to taking Trajenta is also the simultaneous treatment of tuberculosis with rifapmicin. Contraindication to taking Trajenta is type 1 diabetes, where the patient’s body does not produce insulin, and diabetic ketoacidosis – a complication of diabetes involving high blood glucose levels, which causes nausea, vomiting and rapid weight loss. Trajenta is also not recommended for patients with a history of pancreatic disease. Trajenta is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. It is not recommended to use Trajenta in pregnant or breastfeeding patients. There are no data on the harmfulness of Trajenta to the development of the fetus, and there are no data on the effects of the drug’s active substance on the child and whether it passes into breast milk.

Possible side effects of Trajenta

Taking Trajenta may cause low blood glucose levels, allergic reactions, inflammation of the pancreas, inflammation of the nose and cough.

Precautions when using Trajenta

Allergic reactions may occur in people who are allergic to any ingredient of Trajenta. Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medications, as unwanted interactions with other medications may occur. Trajenta should not be taken after the expiry date stated on the package. Please read the package leaflet before using the medicine. Store the drug at room temperature, out of the sight and reach of children. When used according to the doctor’s recommendations, Trajenta has no effect on psychomotor performance and does not impair the ability to drive or operate machinery.
