Tormentalum – action, indications, dosage, contraindications

Tormentalum is an ointment with an extract of cinquefoil rhizomes available in pharmacies without a prescription. It has astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. It is used to treat minor skin damage such as scratches and abrasions.

What is the composition of Tormentalum ointment?

Tormentalum contains ammonium sulfobituminate, cinquefoil rhizome extract and zinc oxide. These ingredients accelerate the healing of minor wounds, abrasions and scratches.

What is the effect of Tormentalum and when is this medicine used?

Tormentalum has anti-inflammatory and bacteriostatic effects. It prevents the formation of edema and soothes swelling after injuries. The cinquefoil extract contained in Tormentalum has astringent properties and inhibits minor bleeding. The rhizome of cinquefoil contains tannins that have an anti-inflammatory effect. It gives the Tormentalum ointment a slightly brown color. Zinc oxide, on the other hand, has an antimicrobial and drying effect and accelerates wound healing, and is a proven agent used for this purpose. Zinc ointment for difficult-to-heal wounds and ulcers of the skin known and used in ancient Egypt. Zinc oxide helps with skin inflammation and regenerates the skin. Tormentalum is used only for minor skin lesions. It must not be applied to open, bleeding wounds – then it may have the opposite effect from the intended one.

Dosing Tormentalum

Tormentalum should be applied directly to the skin. Apply a small layer of the ointment to the skin lesion and massage it in gently. This treatment is repeated 3-4 times a day.

Contraindications to the use of Tormentalum ointment

Tormentalum should not be used by people who are allergic to any of the ingredients of the preparation. The drug must not be used on open wounds and severely damaged skin. It should not be used in places after vaccinations, for local vaccine reactions and for skin lesions after chickenpox. It is not recommended to use Tormentalum during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Precautions when using the drug Tormentalum

Tormentalum is a drug that should not come into contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. Before using Tormentalum ointment, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Sometimes an allergic reaction or skin irritation occurs at the site of application of Tormentalum. In this case, stop taking the drug and contact your doctor. Tormentalum has a dark color and a rather sticky consistency, so be careful when using it, as it can stain your clothes. The dark color is given by Tormentalum extract from the rhizome of the cinquefoil, while the zinc oxide contained in the preparation leaves a characteristic film on the skin, which may make it difficult to wash the preparation immediately after its application. The drug has no influence on driving or operating machinery. Tormentalum should be stored at a temperature below 25 degrees Celsius, out of the reach of children.
