Torecan (active substance thiethylperaazine) is a drug with a strong antiemetic effect, preventing nausea and dizziness. It comes in the form of rectal suppositories, tablets and injection solutions. It has an antiemetic effect already 30 minutes after oral administration. The preparation is a phenothiazine derivative, which also has a psychotropic effect, which may increase some side effects.

Torecan – indications, contraindications, side effects

Torecan is helpful in preventing ailments accompanying various diseases and after treatments. It is often used in:

  1. preventing nausea and vomiting after surgery,
  2. anti-cancer chemotherapy,
  3. radiation therapy,
  4. treatment with preparations that may induce vomiting (opiates, ergot alkaloids),
  5. migraines,
  6. skull and brain injuries,
  7. gastrointestinal disorders,
  8. liver diseases,
  9. diseases of the biliary tract,
  10. labyrinth disorders,
  11. dizziness in Meniere’s disease,
  12. concussion.

Particular precautions should be taken in cases of severe liver diseases, as well as in pregnant and lactating women, elderly patients, children under 15 years of age and patients with epilepsy, prone to depression, kidney failure, Parkinson’s disease. . Contraindication is allergy to any component of the drug. Tell your doctor if you are taking sleeping pills, painkillers, antihistamines, or antihistamines.

Side effects of using Torecan:

  2. somnolence,
  3. seizures
  4. extrapyramidal symptoms,
  5. blurred vision,
  6. dry mouth
  7. anorexia,
  8. peripheral swelling of the limbs and face.

Less frequently, tachycardia and obstructive jaundice may occur. Changes in the blood picture, erythema, exfoliative dermatitis, menstrual disorders, changes in body weight may appear.

Torecan suppositories

The active substance of Torecan suppositories is thiethyl-erazine malate. The drug has antiemetic effects and relieves dizziness. It is indicated in the acute symptomatic treatment of nausea, vomiting and dizziness. The drug is not recommended for children under 15 years of age, and for women under 30 years of age, and special care is required in the elderly. Do not take more than the dose prescribed by your doctor. You should not drink alcohol during treatment. There may be side effects in the form of drowsiness, convulsions, swelling of the face and limbs, headache, dry mouth, accommodation disorders, pressure drop (especially when changing position suddenly).

Caution should be exercised in the case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or any other component of the drug, in diseases of the kidneys and liver, Parkinson’s disease, glaucoma, prostatic hyperplasia, and circulatory failure.

Torecan pregnant

Caution should be exercised during pregnancy. Torecan is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation as it passes into the mother’s milk. In case of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, it is better to reach for another preparation.

The full price of Torecan is about PLN 25 per tablets. It depends on the form of the drug. In the case of suppositories, it ranges from PLN 3,20 to about PLN 13.
