Even with a shortage of clear days in the year, love for the sun should be kept under control. We decided to derive five universal rules for communicating with the heavenly body. They will help protect the skin from all sorts of troubles.
Why should you protect your skin from the sun?
The first thing to learn is that you need to protect yourself from the sun even on cloudy days and at the same time use sunscreen correctly – apply it abundantly and do not forget to renew protection. Let us briefly recall what the insidiousness of ultraviolet rays is.
Sun exposure causes premature aging, and a frivolous attitude to tanning can provoke skin diseases, including melanoma.
UV light is one of the main causes of skin pigmentation and hyperpigmentation.
Excessive sun exposure exacerbates reactive skin conditions ranging from acne to rosacea.
In order to remember sun exposure and summer days in general throughout the year with ease and without annoyance at the appearance of new wrinkles, hated pimples and age spots, we advise you to follow a few simple rules.
Rule 1: Stay out of the sun during peak hours
Try to stay in the shade and don’t forget sunscreen.
The sun’s rays are divided into UVA and UVB – ultraviolet rays of types A and B. Both are harmful to the skin, but show different activity depending on the season and time of day.
It used to be that the most active sun is from 12.00 to 16.00. The data has changed recently. Today, dermatologists recommend avoiding sun exposure between 11 am and XNUMX pm. And even in the morning or at sunset, not to mention the midday hours, it is advised to appear on the street only under the cover of sunscreen.
Damage from ultraviolet radiation tends to accumulate – the effects of sunburn do not appear immediately, but after years, or even after several decades. The skin keeps the memory of them for life.
Rule 2: keep children under 3 years old out of direct sunlight
The best solution for kids at sea is a special swimming suit that reflects the sun’s rays.
Children’s skin is especially delicate, and at first melanin is not produced in it at all, and then (up to 3 years) it is produced unevenly, hence the increased photosensitivity. How can children be protected?
On a sunny day, dress your child in a T-shirt made of natural fabric, be sure to cover your head with a panama hat.
Every time after swimming in the sea or pool, dry your baby with a towel and be sure to apply sunscreen, preferably in the shade.
Choose a water- and sand-resistant sunscreen formulated specifically for children and, if possible, noticeable during application (so as not to miss any skin area).
Rule 3: Cover your arms and shoulders with clothing
Protect your shoulders and back from ultraviolet radiation.
This also applies to adults. Linen shirts with long sleeves are best suited for going to the beach. Do not ignore hats and panamas. An important accessory is sunglasses with an ultraviolet filter. By the way, not any clothing blocks UV rays, more precisely, not any fabric. Now on sale there are products made using a special technology that provides skin with protection from ultraviolet radiation.
And by the way, here are some facts that not everyone knows:
Black clothes protect from the sun better than white clothes.
damp tissue less effectively protects the skin from ultraviolet rays;
the denser the fabric (the smaller the distance between the fibers), the less sunlight it transmits.
Rule 4: Apply a sufficient amount of protective agent
In order to effectively protect yourself from the sun, it is important not only to choose the right sunscreen, but also to use it correctly. The calculation is as follows: 2 mg per 1 square cm of skin. For the face, you will need at least a teaspoon of the product. And don’t forget the neck and ears.
Japanese researchers advise using the cream in two stages. Wait until the first layer dries, and then apply a thin layer of the product a second time.
