How many high-sounding words have I heard that sound in honor of wine: “elixir of the gods”, “child of the vine”, “sacred drink”. But today I learned that modern winemakers can name a drink of luxurious quality and very ironically, for example, Bitch (Bastard) or Arrogamt Frog (Paphos toad).
Therefore, there is no need to chase after the name, but it is important to be able to make the right choice among the huge variety of wines, to find something really interesting. Today I invite you to talk about such a characteristic as a fortress, perhaps debunking established myths along the way.
What determines the strength of wine
Wine can be considered a drink obtained as a result of the fermentation of natural grape juice without the addition of alcohol and sugar.
Worthy wines always have an exact indication of degrees.
The strength of wine, both red and white, is higher, the more sugar has fermented in it. Therefore, dry wines, in which sugar is completely converted into alcohol, are always stronger than semi-dry ones. And semi-dry wines are stronger than sweet wines that have not completely fermented.
Although, by the way, the presence of alcohol in all types of drinks can reach up to 15 degrees.
What are strong white wines?
I will share a selection of strong wines, which, in my personal opinion, are also very tasty. Hope this information is helpful:
- Tsinandali Marani (Tsinandali Marani) fortress 13,5% – dry Georgian wine created from the varieties of Tsvange and Rkatsiteli in the Alazani Valley. After aging in oak barrels, the wine acquires an amber-straw color and a bright aroma of exotic fruits, mixed with warm notes of roasted nuts.
- Batar Toskana (Batar Tuscany) strength 13,5% – Italian dry wine, produced in a ratio of 50/50 from Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc grape varieties. It has a fresh taste of citruses and aromatic herbs, bitter almond, sweet-fruity dried apricots.
- Pechstein GG (Pechstein GG) fortress 13,2% – dry wine made in Germany from Riesling grapes. The complex taste of the wine is made up of juicy notes of banana and pineapple, thin yogurt and cream, sweet hazelnuts.
- Muscat Sec Blanc (White dry Muscat) 13% alcohol is Krasnodar dry table wine produced by Gai-Kodzor from Muscat grapes. The fragrance combines sweet fruity-floral notes with bitter herbal notes. Buttery-creamy taste contains shades of yellow juicy fruits and flowering herbs warmed by the sun.
What are strong red wines?
And these are red wine brands with a high alcohol content:
- “Yarden” Katzrin (Yarden Katzrin) 15,5% alcohol is a ruby-colored dry wine produced by the Israeli company Golan Heights. The dense aroma of wine combines fruit tones with hints of citrus, aromatic herbs and dark chocolate.
- Bodegas El Nido (Bogeras El Nido) fortress 15,5% – dark Spanish dry wine with an expressive fruit and berry flavor, painted with juicy floral hues.
- The Bachelor Collection Pinot Noir (Bachelor’s Collection Pinot Noir) 14% strength – dry wine made from grapes grown in the vineyards of the Krasnodar Territory. It has a rich color and a dense aroma that combines cherry and plum notes.
- Caberne Sauvignon 12,5% ABV is a velvety pomegranate-colored wine produced by the Krasnodar Lefkadia Winery, harmoniously combines shades of fresh blackcurrant, sweet strawberry jam, spicy dried cherries with a light note of fragrant black pepper.
Which wines are stronger: red or white
The technology for the production of red and white wines is similar. Soft and light white wines are made exclusively from the pulp of the fruit (without the skin) and are distinguished not only by a more delicate taste, lack of astringency, high acidity, but most often by a lower strength.
When creating red wine, sweet grape varieties are used, the skin of which has a rich color. Powerful and tart red wines are stronger than white wines for obvious reasons: more sugar in the raw material produces more alcohol.
This means that by and large it is red wines that are stronger. However, it is worth remembering that the degree of the drink also depends on the variety of grapes used, its sugar content. Therefore, when buying, always pay attention to the fortress indicated by the manufacturer.
Excessive alcohol consumption is harmful to your health. Take care of yourself!
Agree, in essence, red and white wines differ slightly in such a feature as fortress. The difference is more about the richness of taste and the level of acidity. What wine do you prefer?
