All coaches in the world study with him, his self-development programs attract celebrities, athletes, businessmen and politicians. What is so special about motivational speaker Tony Robbins? Understands Liana Chistyakova, who visited his training in London.
I first met Tony Robbins in London at one of his most sought-after seminars, Unleash Your Potential. Hundreds of listeners from around the world gathered around. Everyone had their own goals of participation: to be filled with energy, to find an answer to an important question, to get rid of fears, to start acting. The most popular reason was the desire to “get your magic” kick.
Tony Robbins’ self-development programs are in demand among Olympic champions, members of royal families, billion-dollar entrepreneurs. In addition, he himself is a successful businessman, which cannot be said about many other coaches who teach success. In 2007, Forbes magazine included him in the list of “The 100 Most Influential Celebrities”.
What helped to achieve such success? His main postulate is that everything happens first in the head, and then in reality. To unleash your abilities in all areas of life, you need to take a number of steps. Let’s look at 8 main ideas that I managed to glean from this training.
Idea 1: physiology
The mood is at zero, in my head there is only one thought: “I’m a loser.” Are you familiar with this? All actions and decisions go into the void. You work, but there is no result. Tony Robbins is convinced that physiology is where to start. By changing it, you change your life.
Mechanism. Sports, any physical activity – it is important to move, feel how the body becomes more athletic, be ready for changes, and accustom yourself to success in the right area. Use the ability of the brain to build a movement strategy based on familiar reality. What do you want from life? What emotions will this result evoke? Find the answer, feel that emotion and train until it comes to life through real events.
Idea 2: stress and negativity
Each of us faces problems at work, in family life. Most often, we think that fate is unfavorable to us. We complain and worry that everything is not going as planned. We want to get rid of these unpleasant sensations.
Mechanism. We need to change the focus of perception. Every problem is a situation with pros and cons. Analyze both positive and negative aspects.
To avoid such negativity, tune in to the positive every day. Any action is fraught with leaving the comfort zone. But act not out of fear of loss and risk, but out of love for your work, the goal towards which you are moving. Remind yourself that joy and love await you at the final point, then actions will lead to the desired result.
Idea 3: environment
Who surrounds you? How do these people influence you? Help to move forward or hinder development? Sometimes all it takes for a breakthrough is to meet the person who opens up new perspectives.
Mechanism. There should be those who have something that you do not have. See what their life is like, what fills their day, what qualities they use, how they react. Then look at your potential. But be careful: you can not measure yourself and your level of success by the results of other people or companies. Such a path lowers expectations from oneself. Measure your own success by your potential and abilities. Look at how you can act and react based on real possibilities, and do things differently.
Idea 4: visualization
What to do to make your dream come true? Present it in great detail. Think about what you will do when it becomes a reality. This is the power to break through, it gives confidence, tunes the brain to the right wave.
Mechanism. Sit down, take a deep breath and exhale. Picture in your mind the moment you reached your goal. Imagine the smallest details of what is happening, including colors, smells, tactile sensations. The more alive the feelings and emotions are, the closer your dream is.
Idea 5: Priming
Emotions control our actions, make us stronger or weaker. Tony Robbins suggests using priming, a technique that tunes the brain through gratitude, allowing you to quickly change state. Try this exercise every morning.
Mechanism. Use the breathing technique, which in yoga is called Kapalabhati. Take a comfortable position, straighten your back, turn your shoulders. Take a calm breath in and out. At the end of the exhalation, quickly and strongly contract the abdominal muscles to expel the remaining air sharply. Draw your stomach in towards your spine. Exhalation should be as powerful and complete as possible. Do three sets of 10 reps. Help yourself with your hands to “straighten” your lungs and saturate your blood with oxygen. Do 2 more sets of 3 reps. Then place your hands on your knees, palms up. Remember a moment in life for which you are especially grateful to fate. Embrace this gratitude.
Imagine how a beam of golden light passes through the head, body, legs, goes into the ground, twists there in a spiral and returns back. This will cleanse you. Raise your hands and feel overwhelmed with gratitude for everything, even for problems, because they have become the engine of change. Feel the energy in yourself and start the new day with a strong start.
Idea 6: action
You can set goals for a very long time and visualize them. But until you start to act, there will be no result.
Mechanism. Start taking important steps today:
- Take care of your body: sports, healthy eating, body cleansing.
- Make a plan of action for the next week, month, year. You can correct points, but the general plan should be.
- Develop your personal schedule with activities that will bring your dream closer.
- Do at least one action from the plan every day.
- Work productively, not just a lot. If you get tired, consider optimizing your processes.
Idea 7: energy
The body gets used to new loads and begins to perceive them as the norm. It is at this moment that the breakthrough occurs.
Mechanism. Performing new actions that bring you closer to the goal, you experience discomfort, it is difficult and unusual for you. But if the action is right, you will soon feel a surge of energy and see the result. After that, it will be difficult to stop. This is familiar to athletes: muscles without the usual load begin to require another trip to the gym. Of course, there will be moments of relaxation. But even in a state of relaxation, you will feel that the bar is higher than the previous norm.
Idea 8: fear
The Tony Robbins seminar was notable for another moment – walking on burning coals. The coals and the first step are a symbol of overcoming oneself and internal barriers, fears. It has long been proven and repeatedly voiced that we do not act, but embody ideas because of fears. We are afraid to fail, to disgrace ourselves, to seem ignorant. It is important to understand: fear = power.
What can be done to stop being afraid? We must act, take a step on hot coals! If you can walk on coals, you can do anything. When we overcome fear, we become stronger, and Tony’s exercise is a prime example of this. Walking on coals is an ancient Eastern practice, but in its presentation it is perceived very clearly and instructively.
Mechanism. Imagine you take the first step and that’s half the battle. The most difficult thing is to start, to dare to stand on the coals, to try something unknown. After taking the second and third steps, you will understand that it was not so difficult. Looking back, feel that you are capable of much.
The Tony Robbins show and his ideas are designed to work with emotions. The seminar was filled with examples from his life and other great people. A difficult childhood, a relationship with his mother, the conditions in which he lived – nothing broke him. Tony is almost 60 years old, but he looks much younger and easily holds the attention of a ten-thousand audience for 12 hours. His example, the ability to convey the truth is very inspiring.
Now think about what you can achieve if you stick to his ideas?
