TOP 5 liqueur-based cocktails

For me, liqueurs have always stood somewhat apart from all other types of alcoholic beverages. Somehow, while still a student, my friend and I had a chance to help put up a fence for an old lady in the summer. She paid us two bottles of Coffee liqueur.

Well, what, we students are not pretentious people. In the evening we decided to drink our earnings. But it turned out to be too sweet and not tasty. I had to give it to the girls. They were happy and praised the drink. And not only him.

After that, for many years I did not want to try the liquor. But recently I went to a bar and tried a liqueur-based cocktail. And here I realized – this is how I will continue to drink liquor. Only in cocktails.

What is liquor and what are the most popular

Liqueurs are usually sweet alcoholic beverages made from fruits, berries, various herbs and roots, cream, coffee, and even chocolate.

Liqueurs can be drunk neat, but for many, as for me, they are too sweet and cloying. But they are great for making various alcoholic cocktails.

The most popular liquors for cocktails:

  1. Amaretto (Amaretto) – Spanish amber drink based on almonds, vanilla and apricot kernels.
  2. Bailley’s Irish Cream (Baileys) – Irish sweet thick liqueur based on cream and whiskey.
  3. Apricot Brandy (Apricot brandy) is a strong sweet drink based on apricot vodka, apricot juice, starch syrup and alcohol.
  4. Waild Meister (Waldmeister) is an herbal drink, not too sweet, with a pleasant herbal bouquet and a mild aftertaste.
  5. Blue Curacao is a sky-blue drink made from the dried peel of a special kind of bitter orange.

Rules for making cocktails with liqueurs and what ingredients should not be mixed

To prepare delicious cocktails with liquors, certain rules must be followed. A correctly selected composition of flavors will help create an unforgettable taste and bouquet of the drink:

  1. In fruit mixes, it is better to use soft fruits with a homogeneous structure: banana, apricot, strawberry.
  2. Sour ingredients (such as lemon juice) and Coca-Cola should not be mixed with cream liqueurs.
  3. All components in the mix must be cooled to the same temperature.
  4. The right liquor cocktail should have no more than 5 different ingredients.
  5. You cannot mix liqueurs with cognac, rum and aniseed vodka – a headache in the morning is guaranteed.

What you need to make cocktails at home

There is nothing complicated in making cocktails. It is enough to have a certain bar stock and the necessary utensils:

  1. The shaker is the most important tool for mixing alcoholic mixes. It helps to mix ingredients of different density into a homogeneous mass. At home, you can replace it with a jar with a screw lid, and filter the ice through a strainer.
  2. The jigger is a double-sided measuring cup that helps you measure the exact amount of liquid. Can be replaced with a regular glass beaker.
  3. Madler is a small crush with raised prongs for fruits and berries. Houses can be replaced with an ordinary pestle pestle.
  4. A bar spoon with a long twisted handle is convenient for creating multi-layered cocktails.
  5. And of course you will need glasses of various heights, widths and shapes. Stronger versions of cocktails (shots) can be served in thick-walled liqueur glasses.
