A man’s favorite drink is, of course, beer. And I am no exception! Having tried many varieties, I realized that when choosing a beer, it is important to pay attention to the slightest nuances.
For example, many do not know this fact, but even depending on the container (jar or glass), the taste can vary significantly.
Light, dark or unfiltered, which one do you prefer?
When choosing beer, I recommend giving preference to unfiltered. It is the most “real” beer, in my opinion. The main difference between unfiltered beer and light/dark beer is that it does not undergo any processing. That is, it does not pass pasteurization, filtration and preservation.
Another plus in the piggy bank of unfiltered beer: it is not only the most delicious, but also natural, and therefore healthy.
Does the taste of beer change depending on the container?
Oddly enough, but the taste really changes depending on the container. I recommend choosing beer only in glass bottles. The fact is that glass does not enter into any reactions, and the drink in it is able to retain its unique original taste.
In jars, the taste sensations will be less pronounced. And the beer itself runs out much faster. For true connoisseurs of intoxicating canned beer can be a serious disappointment.
I strongly advise you to buy “live” beer more often, which is bottled in plastic bottles. Such beer is stored in sealed kegs and poured directly at the time of purchase.
However, it is better to drink it in the next few hours after bottling to enjoy the true taste. If “live” beer is stored for a long time in a plastic bottle, it will lose its sophistication and authenticity.
What to look for when choosing a beer
Top 3 things to look out for when choosing a beer:
- Best before date. The fresher the beer, the richer and tastier it will be. It is desirable that the maximum shelf life indicated on the bottle is no more than 3-4 months. If the label says that it can be stored for six months or more, it contains preservatives and other harmful additives.
- Storage. I do not advise you to take the beer that is on the shelves in the store. Beer likes to be cool, and unfavorable storage conditions – heat and direct sunlight – will lead to a change in taste. I recommend choosing bottles / jars that are in the refrigerator.
- Bottle color. I have already mentioned that it is better to choose beer not in a can, but in a glass bottle. However, you need to pay attention to its color. I advise you to take beer in a dark glass, and not in a transparent one. Dark glass protects from sunlight, which negatively affects the taste and texture of beer.
I advise you to take a closer look at the color of the beer itself in the bottle. Light and dark should be perfectly transparent, not cloudy. Light (necessarily homogeneous!) turbidity is permissible only in unfiltered.
5 brands of beer that you can safely take in the store
If you do not know what beer to choose in the store, you can trust my taste. I offer you five brands that are really worthy of attention:
- Khamovniki. Excellent inexpensive beer, which is sold in a dark glass bottle. After the first tasting, I was pleasantly surprised by the aroma and taste of the drink. Suitable for those who do not like bitterness. Khamovniki has a sweet aftertaste, while hops and malt are clearly felt (about 84 rubles per 0,47 liters).
- Velkopopovicky Kozel (Velkopopovicky Kozel). An impeccable beer brewed according to a traditional Czech recipe. The basis of the light variety is Lager, which has a hint of coriander. The Dark Goat has a slight taste of caramel (108 rubles per bottle).
- Guinness (Guinness). It can be attributed to the classic Irish ale. It is one of the best representatives of nitrogen beer. The taste is tart with a slight bitterness (149 rubles per 0,44 l can).
- Edelweiss (Edelweiss). There are many varieties of Edelweiss, but I want to recommend unfiltered (110 rubles for 0,45 l). A little shaky, as it should be. It has fruity notes and an unforgettable aftertaste (banana and spices). It is important to note that this is a really high-quality beer, which is produced only on natural ingredients (without preservatives and flavorings).
- Hoegaarden (Hoegaarden). Certainly one of the best representatives of unfiltered beer. A very high quality Belgian intoxicating drink that is easy to drink and does not require an appetizer. The taste is soft, yet rich (95 rubles).
It is not so difficult to choose high-quality beer in the store. The main thing is that it should be fresh, cold and preferably in a dark glass bottle. The rest is individual preference.
You can talk about beer for a long time, so it will be interesting to read your advice. Maybe among your recommendations I will find my new favorite variety.
