Along with the generally recognized Hollywood handsome men like Keanu Reeves, Brad Pitt or Chris Hemsworth, actors who are far from the ideals of male beauty have a huge fan army among women.
They more than compensate for irregular facial features, small stature or excessive fullness with charisma, conquering women’s hearts no worse than “ideal” men.
It is about 10 such “non-standard” beauties that we will talk about today, recalling the most characteristic cases.
10 Adrien Brody
From childhood, Brody was distinguished by his unusual appearance, which his mother, photographer Sylvia Plachi, taught him to be proud of. She often used the boy in her work, teaching him how to behave in front of the camera and not be afraid of her.
Since childhood, in the dream of becoming an actor, Adrian already in the late 80s began to appear on TV in small episodic roles and quickly managed to attract attention.
He was able to truly become famous after the release of Roman Polanski’s film The Pianist, which brought him an Oscar. On the personal front, everything is also fine with him: Brody was never married, but at different times he was credited with novels with Halle Berry and Keira Knightley, and he was completely engaged to Spaniard Elsa Pataky, but in the end she married Chris Hemsworth. Now the actor is 45 and has been dating model Lara Leito for 7 years.
9. Danny Trejo
This actor spent about 10 years in prison, used hard drugs for a long time and generally led a criminal lifestyle. All this left an imprint on his appearance, which at first glance may well frighten.
During the next term, Trejo “jumped off” drugs and, after his release, began to help others, including actors, in this.
Accidentally hitting the set in 1985, he never left it. And let him play mostly villains and scoundrels (which is no wonder with his appearance), his charisma cannot be taken away from him, as well as female fans. Often the actor can be seen in the company of young beauties, although he is already 74.
8. Adriano Celentano
The iconic Italian actor is far from being a model, but at the height of his popularity, he was one of the world’s top sex symbols, especially in the Soviet Union.
Amazingly playing the role of a typical macho, Celentano also sang and danced very well, and such a “combo” did not leave a single chance for women.
Despite the image of a reveler and a ladies’ man, Adriano is an exemplary family man: he has been together with his wife Claudia Mori for more than half a century.
7. Vincent Cassel
Another actor who has a completely ordinary (to put it mildly) appearance, but who has become the standard of male beauty in his homeland.
If you think that only provincial fans can dream of such a man, then this is not so: Kassel’s first wife was actress Monica Bellucci, who is deservedly considered one of the most beautiful and sexy women of her generation.
The second wife, model Tina Kunaki, is 31 years younger than him, but nevertheless, in January of this year it became known that they were expecting a baby.
6. Jack Black
The American comedian and musician has never tried to fit into any framework, be it the norms of behavior or the standards of appearance.
Knowing full well about his fullness, he turned it into his dignity: slender Jack Black could not make the audience laugh like “chubby” Jack Black does. Something like this, the actor himself always answered journalists’ questions about whether he was going to “bring himself into shape.”
Now, when he is almost 50, such questions have lost their relevance: everyone understood that he was already doing well.
5. Danny DeVito
Plump, early balding and having a height of only 1 m. De Vito received instead of appearance a remarkable acting talent and human charm.
He came to the cinema in the mid-70s, starring in a small role in the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. After that, he got a more prominent role in the television series Taxi, where he successfully starred for 5 years.
Being already known and loved by the public, the actor began to experiment with roles, agreeing not only to comedic roles, but also to dramatic ones.
His track record includes dramas (Hoffa) and even neo-noir thrillers (LA Confidential).
Now Danny is 74 years old and very soon he can be seen in the film “Dumbo” directed by Tim Burton.
4. Javier Bardem
A Spaniard with an admixture of Cuban blood, Bardem was born into a family where almost everyone was involved in film production: his grandfather was a director, his grandmother was an actress, and his uncle was a director and screenwriter.
Having spent all his childhood on the theater stage and making his debut on TV at the age of 6, he nevertheless did not want to act in films, wanting to devote himself to drawing.
When Javier realized that his paintings were not for sale, but that he had to earn money somehow, he stopped painting and took up acting. As time has shown – not in vain.
“Oscar” and “Golden Globe” for Best Supporting Actor – this is not a complete list of his achievements.
3. Eddie Redmayne
This Briton also cannot be called a model of male beauty, but this did not stop him from becoming the face of the Burberry brand in 2008 and, on the whole, building a rather successful modeling career.
He achieved even greater success in the cinema: devoting most of his time to the theater, Redmayne rarely appeared on the big screen, so he began to receive major roles already in adulthood.
The work on the film “Stephen Hawking’s Universe” was the first really big one for him and immediately brought a resounding success: Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe.
Now he is fully busy filming the pentalogy about “Fantastic Beasts” based on the works of J.K. Rowling.
2. Rowan Atkinson
A person who is well aware of the shortcomings of his appearance and knows how to use it for his own good. Showing a talent for comedy from an early age, Atkinson already in 1978 launched his own TV show, which, although it did not become a hit, allowed him to gain a foothold in the right environment.
Success came to him in 1990, when the series “Mr. Bean” was released, each episode of which gathered 20 million viewers at the screens.
1. Peter Dinklage
With a height of only 135 centimeters, Dinklage seemed destined to play episodic roles of dwarfs and remain an unknown extras actor, but thanks to his talent and perseverance, he managed to achieve much more.
Despite the fact that he announced himself back in 2003 with his role in the film The Station Agent, Peter’s real popularity came only with the release of the series Game of Thrones. Tyrion Lannister in his performance is the highlight of the whole show. Three Emmy awards and one Golden Globe for this role, he fully deserved.
