3. Kostroma
Kostroma – geographically the most distant city from Moscow from the Golden Ring. Founded in 1152, its name translates as “fortress”, and the city is named so for a reason – Kostroma was specially created by Yuri Dolgoruky to protect it from ill-wishers. Some time ago, they wanted to exclude the city from the route, because it was too dirty for tourists, but it seems that this problem was solved.
This ancient city is a city of contrasts. Centuries-old buildings here are adjacent to modern houses and 5-storey buildings such as Khrushchev. The main street of the city is Sovetskaya, from where the tour begins. Interesting shopping malls on the main square, the largest Red and Dairy. The city impresses with its ancient architecture, the majestic Volga and the silence of the city.
Interesting fact: Kostroma became the second city after Moscow to receive its own coat of arms. This happened back in 1767. Catherine II once sailed here.
2. Yaroslavl
Trip to Yaroslavl will be remembered forever, because the city has a unique atmosphere. Be calm – walking along the streets of the city, you can always have a bite to eat whenever you want, because there are cafes and restaurants everywhere (for every taste and budget). Entrance to the museum-reserve is paid, you can take a ticket to all exhibitions.
If you walk towards the embankment, on the right you can see Damansky Island, you pass over the bridge and find yourself in an amusement park, which families with children will really like. A walk along the embankment is an extraordinary pleasure – you can ride a boat, the walk lasts an hour. In Yaroslavl, there are beautiful churches and old buildings at almost every step – just walking around the city and admiring the views is a great joy.
1. Sergiev Posad
Sergiev Posad is a city that endows residents and visitors with bright colors. The city is so beautiful and well-groomed, as if every detail is thought out here. History lovers should visit the city – it is small, so you are unlikely to get lost. You can walk around in a day at a leisurely pace.
Tourists are sure to offer a look at the Pancake Mountain, the White Pond, the monument to the graduates of 1941, the Kelar Pond and more.
