We’ve been seeing a trend lately where airlines have added an incredible amount of new extra long flights. Air carriers from around the world have unveiled new routes that empower next-generation aircraft and connect more people than ever before over the most incredible distances.
What makes ultra-long flights more sustainable than in the past? A couple of factors. New aviation technologies that we have seen, especially with the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787; these aircraft are economical and have a relatively small capacity (at least compared to the 747) and as a result are capable of profitable long flights. Oil prices are still fairly low (though volatile) and there is strong global demand for non-stop flights between business centers
Boeing and Airbus continue to innovate ways to increase range and passenger capacity, allowing major airlines to profit from these ultra-long range flights.
As aircraft become more fuel efficient and fuel costs remain relatively low, there’s a good chance we’ll continue to see more competition for a place on our list. We present you the ranking of the longest flights by plane in the world: 10 record-breaking long-distance flights.
