The parks are called the lungs of the city. Green islands of tranquility in the middle of the stone jungle. Here the eye rests from the brightness of advertising and gray walls, and the ear from the endless noise, which only remains somewhere in the distance.
In the parks, parents walk with their children, teenagers spend time, and couples in love go round and round, unable to talk.
Such a huge metropolis as Moscow would not be able to do without parks. Almost every microdistrict has a small green corner where you can relax from the hustle and bustle.
But in this article we will talk about the ten largest parks in Moscow. It’s not just trees, paths and benches. Each has its own history, each is an attraction in itself with its own characteristics and history.
10 Sad Hermitage
Sad Hermitage is located in the heart of Moscow and occupies most of the Karetny Ryad street. The year 1894 is considered to be the founding day of the park as we know it.
Kupets Ya.V. Shchukin made a lot of efforts to turn the estate of V.I. Olontsov to the center of theatrical and concert activity.

Later, parts of other estates were added to them, and the park received its modern borders in 1920. Two years later it was renamed in honor of N.E. Bauman and installed his bust in the park.
A summer stage has been installed here, on which the brightest stars of the Soviet Union performed. In winter, a skating rink is poured next to the stage. In principle, the garden is not boring at any time of the year: in the summer, free training and master classes, festive events are held here, a children’s center and a theater for the smallest spectators are open.

8. Muzeon
art park Muzeon refers to Gorky Park. This is a dynamically developing art space, in fact, an open-air museum. The basis is a collection of sculptures by famous masters, including the works of Evgeny Vuchetich, Vera Mukhina and many others.
But today Museon is more than just a museum. There is a summer cinema and a Children’s Center, interesting exhibitions, theatrical performances and other cultural events are regularly held.

7. Vorontsovsky Park
Vorontsov’s estate is located in the South-West of Moscow. This is a favorite place for recreation and leisure of the residents of the capital and some of its guests. Its history goes back as far as the 14th century, when the Vorontsov boyar family owned these lands. Passing from hand to hand, the estate became prettier, acquired new buildings, a cascade of ponds, an Italian and Chinese garden.

6. Sokolniki

5. VDNKh

In 2014, VDNH was merged with the Botanical Garden, and now the area of the park exceeds 300 hectares. There is also an amusement park, street cafes, one of the largest skating rinks in Moscow is flooded in winter.
4. Zaryadye
Zaryadye – a new park, laid out in the eponymous district of Moscow on the site of the Rossiya Hotel. It was supposed to build a shopping or business center in its place, but with the support of the public, it was decided to arrange a park on this site. As a result, a modern green area appeared on 13 hectares of the most expensive piece of land in Moscow.
The Zaryadye project has been criticized at every stage of construction, but it’s worth visiting the park yourself and deciding whether it turned out the way it was intended: innovative and at the same time conveying traditions.
In addition to four park areas, there is an amphitheater, a concert hall, a media center, an ice cave, and the famous floating bridge on the territory. Exhibitions and city events are regularly held here. To get to Zaryadye, you need to get to Kitay-Gorod or Ploshchad Revolutsii stations.
3. Izmailovsky Park
Izmailovsky Park occupies 310 hectares of natural forest. It is one of the cleanest parks in Europe and boasts unique plant and animal life. But there is something to do here besides the contemplation of nature.
Visitors can leisurely walk along the well-groomed paths, have fun in the amusement park, admire the architecture, visit the open-air museum of military equipment, have a bite to eat in street cafes or ride on the sports fields.
Izmailovsky Park is not only an example of gardening art, but also a modern area for leisure activities. The main entrance is located on the alley of the Big Circle, 7, metro stations “Partizanskaya”, “Highway of Enthusiasts”, “Semenovskaya”.
2. Gorky Park
Gorky Park – the central park of Moscow, which is spread over 200 hectares. Despite its long history, thanks to the management and government of the city, the space remains modern, meeting all the requirements for a recreational space.
Entrance to the territory is always free, in addition, wi-fi is available here. But you won’t need it, because there are so many activities in the park that you can’t try it in a whole day. Attractions, art spaces, sports grounds and sports equipment rental, various classes, seminars and lectures, playgrounds and a host of various events.
The entire area is equipped with cycle paths and is also friendly for people with reduced mobility. You can get to the park from a number of metro stations: Park Kultury, Sparrow Hills, Oktyabrskaya, Leninsky Prospekt.
1. Elk Island
Elk Island Park is located in the north-east of Moscow and captures part of the Moscow region. Its area is almost 120 km², and it is one of the first protected national parks in Russia.
In addition to scenic routes and picnic areas, visitors to the park may be interested in the moose biostation, where you can communicate with live moose. The arboretum is a wildlife reserve that also works as an educational object.
In the horse yards you can admire the horses and even ride one of them. On the territory of the park you can see a wild elk, many come out to people. So, students of the MGSU university, which is located near the park, have met wild animals more than once on the territory of their institute.
