We remember the nineties for many high-profile events – the Soviet Union collapsed, there was a leap in technological progress, and the cinema and music industry gave us legendary personalities.
Especially during this period, Hollywood distinguished itself – cult films and serials were “thrown out” on the screens, and the actresses who played key roles gained popularity and wealth for many years.
Time passes, and with it, fashion trends change. Cute teenage girls of the 90s now already look like mature aunts, so they are less and less invited to act in films, and then in low-quality films.
Let’s go back to the 90s together and remember which actresses excited the audience with their bright characters.
10 Juliette Lewis
The famous Hollywood singer and actress received an Oscar for her role in the film Cape Fear. Also, young Juliet is well remembered by everyone from the film “From Dusk Till Dawn”, where her heroine survived the “invasion” of vampires, retaining her sanity and attractiveness.
Now the actress practically does not act in film and tours with solo musical concerts. In the latest films “August” and “Nerve” the viewer can still look at the adult and feminine Lewis.
9. Neve Campbell
The young pretty girl Niv literally “shot” in the cult thriller “Scream”, starring in all parts. Everyone remembers the lovely Sydney, who, covered in blood, fearlessly runs away from a serial maniac. The actress’s play was appreciated by film critics – she was predicted to have a great future in Hollywood.
In fact, after “Scream” Campbell’s career continued – she was entrusted with roles in “Threesome Tango”, “Wild Things” and other famous films. Despite filming the last part of Scream in 2000, Neve never became a Hollywood diva.
8. Christina Ricci
Starting with The Ice Wind, Ricci broke into the world of cinema. At first, the girl chose paintings dedicated to the problems of teenage love, passion and personality development.
Christina was not shy about expressing her sexuality in public, including playing a female character’s lover.
After a bright “shot” Ricci switched to small independent productions and commercial projects, however, not very successful. Also, the actress tried herself as a producer.
7. Sarah Michelle Gellar
Few people do not remember the charming Buffy, who boldly and attractively exterminated the most bloodthirsty vampires. After the series, Gellar was in great demand, appearing in teen comedies and dramas every now and then.
The success of the actress was consolidated by the film Cruel Intentions, where Sarah had to play a real bitch as opposed to the image of the sweet and brave Buffy. However, after the film, it was Reese Witherspoon’s career that went uphill, who played a positive character.
And Gellar was gradually forgotten by fans and producers, forever remaining a nostalgic memory.
6. Mena Suvari
Beautiful Mena appeared in really interesting films such as American Pie, American Beauty, etc.
Despite the pretty girl, her acting data did not impress cult directors and eminent producers, so there were no offers to participate in major projects.
Suvari still looks 100%, but starred in unpopular TV shows like American. The girl managed to change husbands twice. But marriage to either a cameraman or a producer did not help the star of the nineties develop his career.
5. Alicia Silverstone
Even 20 years ago, Alicia was known to almost every teenager. The girl appeared in cool music videos that turned the music world upside down.
Then she got the main role in the movie “Clueless” and flashed on the pages of glossy magazines in the image of the “queen of teenagers.”
At the peak of his popularity, Silverstone changes his life dramatically, taking a great interest in oriental culture and yoga. Having found harmony within herself, Alicia did not want to reappear at social events. An enlightened vegetarian became an exemplary wife and dog lover, settling with her husband in an eco-house.
4. Linda Hamilton
This name was remembered by all movie lovers of the 90s, because it was Linda who played the cult Sarah Connor in the Terminator movie.
The first and second parts received a number of well-deserved awards and collected crazy box office, the girl was recognized on the streets and invited to various projects.
Surprisingly, Hamilton’s career was blown away quickly enough, leaving the actress to be content with television series.
This was followed by bipolar disorder, as well as 2 unsuccessful marriages. Now Linda plays in mini-series and occasionally voices characters.
3. Andie MacDowell
Curly Andy broke into the 80s with her modeling career, followed by a decade of success in the film world. The girl received a number of leading roles in such films as Sex, Lies and Video, as well as Groundhog Day, Residence Permit, etc.
McDowell could already collect the Golden Globes, but after the 90s, an unexpected career decline began. Andy was unlucky in every commercial project that she preferred.
Now the hero of the day, Andy, flashes only in unpopular American TV shows, such as Cedar Bay.
2. Winona Ryder
The opening girl flaunted on the pages of glossy magazines. The popular films “Deadly Attraction” and “Beetlejuice” became the actress’s guides to the world of big cinema.
A fragile girl with open eyes and a fashionable haircut became a teen idol thanks to the popular films Mermaids, Edward Scissorhands, Girl, Interrupted and many others.
Ryder bathed in interesting projects, vivid novels and, of course, worthy rewards for her work.
Many believe that Ryder’s career was ruined by the psychological disorder “kleptomania”. In 2001, the actress was arrested for theft, after which her popularity began to decline sharply.
Ryder received her last more or less memorable role in the film “Black Swan”, which, ironically, tells about an unclaimed prima.
1. Meg Rayan
Glory came to the actress thanks to her quick but well-aimed appearance in the film “Top Gun”. Then, a sweet smiling girl was offered several more interesting roles in famous films, such as “You’ve Got Mail”, as well as “Sleepless in Seattle”.
To the surprise of fans, Ryan slowly disappeared from the scene in 2000, explaining this by simple human fatigue from popularity and the empty world of cinema. Ryan said that now her life is becoming freer and happier.
We do not know how the career of actresses would have developed if it were not for life circumstances. But we will forever remember them thanks to the cult roles that gave a taste of the “real 90s”.
