When people think of great TV, they think of dramas, sleuths, sitcoms, and sci-fi, but not mysticism. What many people get wrong is that mysticism and fantasy only refer to magic and dragon stories. Of course, these aspects are a big part of the genre, but above all, fantasy is the purest form of escapism. And isn’t that fun? Mystery shows are on the rise but some have become really amazing and here are the top 10 top rated ones.
10 OA (2016-2019)
The series focuses on Prairie Johnson, a young woman who resurfaces after going missing for seven years. Upon her return, Prairie calls herself “OA”, shows scars on her back, and can see despite being blind when she disappeared. OA refuses to tell the FBI and her foster parents where she was and how her sight was restored, and instead quickly assembles a team of five locals (four high school students and a teacher) to whom she reveals this information, also explaining her life story. Finally, she asks them to help rescue other missing people.
9. Twin Peaks (1990-1991)
On April 8, 1990, Twin Peaks changed the face of television forever. Created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, this groundbreaking drama series brought the combined vision of these two filmmakers to the small screen.
To the uninitiated, Twin Peaks’ story may seem like an impenetrable knot of plot threads – but it’s actually a beautifully balanced tapestry of theme, genre, and deep emotion. It is an iconic image of place and time that takes on a huge number of views depending on the viewing angle. 8. Castle Rock (2018-…)
Castle Rock, an elaborate mystery filled with allusions, is sure to please even the pickiest of Stephen King fans.
The first season of the drama begins with death row lawyer Henry Deever (André Holland) getting a call asking him to return to his hometown of Castle Rock, where former warden Dale Lacy was apparently being held captive in an abandoned neighborhood of the local penitentiary. (Terry O’Quinn) who recently committed suicide. Henry returns home, where he is reunited with his mother Ruth (Sissy Spacek) and Sheriff Alan Pangborn (Scott Glenn), who saved his life as a child. Over the course of the season, Henry discovers terrible secrets along the way about him, the warden, and the entire town.
7. Leftovers (2014-2017)
The sullen tone and seriousness can make a watch dark, but The Leftovers is an expertly crafted, thought-provoking drama that aims high and often hits the mark. Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta adapted the novel about life in a small town after many of its residents have disappeared. The series begins on the third anniversary of the Sudden Departure, and the people of Mapleton, New York, have their own ways of coping with the aftermath of this catastrophic event.
6. The X-Files (1993-2018)
The X-Files is a dark sci-fi drama that can be very scary at times, sometimes featuring monsters, deformed people, disturbing scenarios, and violent acts. The show’s mythology focuses on government conspiracy, cover-up, and the possibility of alien abduction. Mulder is highly suspicious of the government and fervently believes in the existence of aliens due to the fact that he remembers his sister being abducted by aliens when he was a child. Scully, an experienced doctor, was originally a skeptic assigned to the X-Files to debunk Mulder’s unpopular theories, but she eventually came to believe in the paranormal.
Creepy and intriguing, the series was hugely popular during its nine-year run on Fox in the 1990s and early 2000s.
5. Preacher (2016-2018)
Traveling across the country, preacher Jesse Custer has teamed up with his tough friend Tulip and an Irish vampire named Cassidy on an adventure to defeat a god.
With its exploding pastors, armed angels, fantastical fight scenes and pop culture, the show is a hit.
4. Dark Child (2013-2017)
In Episode 1 of this sci-fi thriller, an orphan named Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany) is caught up in a deadly plot after learning she is a clone. In the season premiere episode “Natural Selection”, Sarah witnesses the suicide of a woman who looks exactly like her and assumes the victim’s identity in hopes of escaping her hectic life.
3. City of the supernatural. Indiana (1991-1992)
“City of the Supernatural. Indiana is an American science fiction horror television series that originally aired on NBC from September 15, 1991 to April 12, 1992. The series was created by José Rivera and Karl Schaefer, with Joe Dante acting as creative consultant. A total of nineteen episodes were produced. The last episode first aired in 1993 when the series aired on the Disney Channel.
The series revolves around Marshall Teller, a teenager whose family moves to the desert town of Spooky, Indiana, with a population of 16. As he moves into his new home, he meets Simon Holmes, one of the few normal people in this creepy town. Together, they face bizarre events that include the discovery of a sinister group of intelligent dogs who are planning to take over the world and an encounter with a tornado hunter who resembles Captain Ahab.
2. Darkness (2017-…)
The Darkness’s central mystery unfolds slowly, tensely and terrifyingly, culminating in an eerie cinematic triumph of sci-fi.
Darkness is a German family drama series created by Baran Bo Odar and Jantje Friese. Set in the fictional town of Winden, it revolves around four intertwined families haunted by their secrets and contains science fiction and fantasy elements.

Stranger Things is about the mysterious disappearance of a young Will (Noah Schnapp) who disappears into the woods while riding his bike home after playing Dungeons & Dragons with his friends. His terrified mother Joyce (Winona Ryder) and his brother Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) are sure something terrible has happened to him, and the detective leading the search party begins to suspect something strange too.
Meanwhile, a mysterious young girl, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), has escaped from a dark experimental facility that appears to be connected to some otherworldly being. Where will Will be? What kind of creature do we hear but do not see? And what are these officials doing in their secret laboratory?
