A waterfall is a continuous stream of water that flows down a steep cliff. The height is very different – from one meter to hundreds.
The water flows down the formations in the mountains, which are more resistant to erosion. Many have not yet been studied or found. In this article, we will look at the highest waterfalls in Russia.
10 Ashiltinsky, 103 m
Location: Untsukul district, Ashylta village
Ashilta waterfall located in Dagestan. It is located right next to the village itself, which is why it cannot be called inaccessible. A small stream called Ashiltinka falls from a height, forming 5 delightfully beautiful cascades.
This place always looks great at any time of the year. In summer it can be seen shimmering among the huge bushes of greenery, and in winter – in the form of huge crystal icicles.
It is this waterfall that supplies the people living in these places with water. It is also used for watering their gardens. It should be noted that the water consumption is very small. Approximately 5 liters per second.
9. Ilya Muromets, 141 m
Location: Kurilsky district, Medvezhiy peninsula
A very long time ago, a waterfall called Ilya Muromets was considered the highest in all of Russia. But now it’s not so popular anymore. It is located on the small Bear Peninsula.
This waterfall is located next to the cape, which has the same name. It is possible to get here by fishing boat. On land, this is simply unrealistic. Currently, the area is well protected. Various activities that can be harmful are prohibited here.

8. Kishtinsky, 150 m
Location: Sayans
Kishtinsky waterfall located on the river Bolshaya Kishta. This place is a few kilometers from the well-known Mongolian pass. You can still see this beauty from a distance. Although the width of the stream is quite small, only 1 meter.
In this place, you can easily stop for the night in a tent. There are small hills where cedar grows. From here there is a very good view of the waterfall itself, and the river as a whole.
7. Fly, 160 m
Location: Altai, Chulyshman Valley
The waterfall called Fly is located in Altai and is considered the largest in this area. The water here falls from a very steep, but not quite sheer cliff. At a distance of about 7-8 km from this place, the Chulcha river merges with another river, which is called Chulyshman.
It should be noted that this waterfall is located in a protected area. That is why, if you want to see this unforgettable sight, you will have to pay for the entrance. But the amount is quite small, about 100-200 rubles.
You can get to the waterfall along an asphalt road by car. Now good paths have been laid, which allows tourists to visit many places.
6. Fisht, 200 m
Location: Lagonakskoe highlands, Maykop district of Adygea
Waterfall Fisht is located in the South. He has quite a few names: Fishtinsky, Pshekhsky. It falls from a sheer wall that runs between two mountains called Fisht and Pshekha-Su.
It’s not hard to get to this place. The trip takes place in just one day. It is located in the most remote place from civilization. But surprisingly, a dirt road has been preserved to it, which just leads tourists to it.
In winter, there is a lot of snow here, but those who have an SUV can easily drive through. Fans of low cars are better not to meddle here, there is a risk of being left without wheels. But in the summer, things get a lot easier. That is why a large number of people come here in the summer.
A large flow of water here can be seen only in spring. In summer, it flows not so confidently. To get to the waterfall, you need to lay your route through the village of Chernihiv. Then head for a place called Remote, which is located in a dense forest.
In these places, you can also pitch a tent and stay overnight. The paths leading to the beautiful waterfall are wide. There are always many flowers blooming along the roadsides. Here you can enjoy various berries: blueberries, raspberries. The forest is beautiful, which is why you will remember the road to the waterfall well, in unusual places.
Before you practically approach the waterfall, there will be some difficulties. There is a slight rise with a loose surface. You have to be very careful.
You can enter the territory only with a ticket, because the waterfall is located on the territory of one of the reserves. But on all routes, tourists walk alone, without permission.
5. Grandiose, 200 m
Location: Krasnodar Territory, Putorana Plateau
Waterfall Grandiose so called not for its height or power. It is named after the peak of the same name from which it flows. This peak is the highest point in the Krasnodar Territory.
To get to the waterfall you have to overcome a rather difficult path. At the top you can see not only the beauties of nature, but also many historical places. On the way you will come across memorial Soviet plaques and bas-reliefs. The flow of water is mesmerizing. Its width reaches one meter, and its height is about 200.
4. Charaor, 250 m
Location: Dokuzparinsky district of Dagestan
Waterfall Charaor located on the borders of Dagestan and Azerbaijan. A lot of rain and melt water passes through Charaor. For quite a long time the object was unknown. This happened due to the seasonal nature. It is worth saying that there is not even a mention of him in the geography of Dagestan. And on modern maps it is not marked.
It was first discovered by climbers in the 1980s. Tourists have laid several routes to the neighboring mountains. After its discovery, the Charaor waterfall was studied and measured. The stream itself and the nature surrounding it are unusually picturesque. The views are simply magnificent, they will not leave anyone indifferent.
It is also worth mentioning that this waterfall is the highest in Dagestan. It consists of two steps. Nearby there is still a stream that beats with a powerful jet of water.
3. Kinzelyuk waterfall, 400 m
Location: Krasnodar Territory, Kuraginskiy District
Kinzelyuksky the waterfall is located in the Krasnodar Territory. It is considered one of the most inaccessible places where many tourists go. You can only get there by helicopter. But travelers note that traveling by land gives a lot more emotions than a view from a helicopter.
The first expedition to these places began in the 1940s. She took about three weeks. Currently, you can also get here by water. A waterfall flows down the rocks of an ancient volcano. The view is just amazing. The sound of water on rocks is extraordinary. It is worth noting that in hot weather there are thick clouds.

Talnikovy The waterfall is located in Asia. You can visit it only on the territory of the reserve. The stream falls for about 1 km from a large sheer cliff. But it is worth noting that the water flows only 1-2 months throughout the year. To see this spectacle, you need to know when it happens.
