It’s no secret that fuel prices are rising every year. Stopping this process is quite problematic, because the price of oil, including gasoline, depends on many factors. These include not only economic but also political factors.
Gasoline prices rose again in 2018. Naturally, this did not please anyone. The jump became especially noticeable in May-June. But not only in Russia expensive fuel. Drivers are always interested in how things are with foreign “colleagues”. Below you can see the top 10 countries where the price of gasoline is considered one of the highest in Europe.
10 United Kingdom
Opens the rating of countries where the price of gasoline is very high – Great Britain. The cost of gasoline in 2018 per 1 liter reached 113 rubles. Every year the price keeps going up. Many motorists in England believe that the cost of gasoline is too high, and the government does not take any measures to reduce it. The increase in fuel prices is due to the increase in taxes. For example, in 2010 the value added tax was increased. VAT increased from 17,5% to 20%. Against the background of the increase in the rate, of course, there was an increase in the price of gasoline. British motorists are looking forward to the New Year with fear. After all, usually the cost rises precisely from the first days of January.
9. Ireland
Another country, which is part of the UK, can “boast” the high price of gasoline among European countries. A few years ago, the cost reached more than 2 dollars per liter. Now the cost of gasoline at gas stations in Irish cities is 1,69 dollars or 108 rubles. The price hits hard on the pockets of ordinary residents of Ireland, but citizens cannot do anything about the constant increase in fuel prices. It remains to put up with an inflated price, or less often use personal transport in order to save money. It is worth noting that the price of gasoline jumps all year round. A few months ago, or rather, in June, it was $1,69. That’s how fast prices are going up in Ireland. We understand the Irish like no one else and sincerely sympathize with them.
8. Sweden
Sweden, even without the cost of gasoline, is considered one of the most expensive countries not only in Europe, but also in the world. But a separate word is still worth saying about the local fuel price. To date, the average cost in the country is 115 rubles per liter, or $1,70. But it is worth noting that the salaries of the Swedes are far from being the smallest. And taxes in Sweden are high. Another reason why petrol is so expensive in Sweden is the desire of the Government of the country to become completely independent from the use of oil by 2020. But, despite the high prices, many people dream of living in Sweden. After all, there is one of the highest standards of living in the world. Apparently, this is what the Swedes are paying for with high gasoline prices. In the meantime, the country is in eighth place among countries in terms of fuel prices.
7. France
To date, the cost of gasoline in French cities is $ 1,83 per liter. A few years ago, the cost of fuel reached as much as 2,2 dollars. It is quite difficult to explain why France has such high prices if you are not an expert in finance or economics. In the meantime, French financiers deal with gasoline prices, the French, like everyone else, have to put up with this state of affairs. Or switch to public transport. Traveling by bus or subway will save a decent amount of money per month. And domestic motorists can only be glad that gasoline in Russia does not yet cost the same as that of the French “colleagues”.
6. Finland
If you decide to travel around Finland in your own car, be sure to find out the average cost of fuel before you set off. Depending on the brand of gasoline, its cost will be different, but on average it is 1,4 euros per liter. So, if you want to get to Finland by your own car, stock up on fuel in advance in Russia. Compared to Finland, it is very cheap here. It is only worth noting that only 10 liters of gasoline and a full tank can be carried across the border. If you decide to stock up more than 10 liters, you will have to pay an additional tax. Without this, you will not be allowed into Finland.
5. Portugal
The paradox of Portuguese drivers is that they have to go to neighboring Spain for gasoline. After all, there the prices for gasoline do not bite so much, unlike their native Portugal. But really, why buy at home if the Spaniards will sell you gasoline much cheaper. This increase in the cost of fuel is due to the high taxes that motorists have to pay when buying gasoline. More than 50% of the amount of fuel is a tax. And one liter of gasoline in Portugal costs from 109 rubles.
4. Denmark
Opens the top four, who are the most unlucky, the Scandinavian country – Denmark. Denmark is a country with a high standard of living, so the prices here are high. On average, the cost of fuel has increased from $1,70 to $1,92 per liter. In connection with such prices, there are not many motorists on the roads of Denmark, because it is cheaper to transfer to public transport. But thanks to expensive gasoline and a small number of cars in Danish cities, the environment is very good, because most of the environmental pollution comes from cars.
3. Italy
Another country that has not been lucky with the cost of gasoline is sunny Italy. Although why do Italians need cars at all, because their cities are so beautiful that it is better to walk and enjoy the views. Apparently, such romance no longer attracts local residents, and they are ready to give 110 rubles per liter of gasoline, just to travel around Italian cities by car. It is possible that such high prices are due to the fact that the country has a high level of corruption, and many people evade paying taxes in every possible way. Doesn’t it remind you of anything?
2. Netherlands
The Kingdom of the Netherlands fell short of the championship quite a bit. The maximum price recorded by motorists at the Kingdom’s gas stations was $1,98 per liter. Up to this point, the cost has been steadily growing until it reaches a record value. Such a sharp increase in prices is due to the fact that the Netherlands is very dependent on oil refining. Before the crisis of 2008, everything was stable and prices were as low as possible. After 2008, the Dutch economy fell into decline, and the Government still cannot cope with its consequences. So the Dutch have to pay big sums to get around by car.
1. Norway
In the first place is another Scandinavian country – Norway. Here, the average cost of gasoline is 119 rubles per 1 liter. Norway is one of the countries where the bulk of the budget depends on the sale of oil. But, as in the Netherlands, the stability in the country was disrupted after the 2008 crisis. The fall in oil prices led to the fact that the Government was forced to reduce some of the costs and raise the tax on gasoline. This led to an increase in fuel prices.
