There will always be a demand for science fiction, because fantasy stories allow us to take a break from reality and immerse ourselves in a world in which the impossible does not exist. In fiction, you can go through a wall, go back in time, befriend monsters, basically do everything you can’t do in reality.
“Harry Potter” – a story about a wizard boy, which became a real hit, and many authors began to imitate the style of J.K. Rowling. Someone does it well!
We came across a fascinating fantasy fairy tale “Chasodei” with a very good rating (on Fantlab it is 7.6 out of 10), readers liked the story, and after reading the first book, some rushed to buy the entire series.
I am glad that Natalia Shcherba’s book was to the taste of many readers. If you have already finished reading the entire series, we suggest you keep a list of similar literature – it will come in handy.
10 Damn school. Hawkins Rachel
From the first pages, you may get the wrong impression about the book, but later you realize that it was written by a thinking author. There are no tearful boring moments here, but there is a main character who helps to understand how to act in difficult situations. Cursed School is an easy read, and Rachel’s subsequent books are also readable..
Hecate Hall School, where children with paranormal abilities study, is organizing a ball on Halloween. Each of the girls wants to kill their rivals, claiming to be the most hvrismatic guys in the school. But it’s one thing to make a competitor suffer, it’s quite another to encroach on her life…
9. Harry Potter. Joanne Rowling
J.K. Rowling forever inscribed her name in the annals thanks to a series of books about Harry Potter. Of course, there are those who found blunders in the work of the writer, but are they so significant? The story has fans, and Harry Potter continues to be filmed. In 2026, the 9th part of the film – “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is expected.
In the first Harry Potter novel, we get to know the young wizard, his story and, most importantly, the drama of life. Harry is an orphan who learns that he is a wizard and receives an invitation to Hogwarts.
For Harry, the world of Hogwarts is full of surprises, but new friends help him adapt. He meets Sean and Hermione, who will save him from death more than once.
8. Percy Jackson. Rick Riordan
Rick Riordan wrote a series of books dedicated to the universe of Percy Jackson. Since 2005, when Riordan’s first book was published, his every new work was destined to become a bestseller in advance, and enjoyed crazy popularity. What is the plot of this hit?
Percy Jackson is a 12-year-old American schoolboy who almost became a victim of a teacher. But the pen he got from Mr. Brunner came in handy. She turned into a sword and stopped the crazy math girl.
But after getting out of the situation, Jackson was waiting for new “surprises”. On the coast, where they went with their mother, they were attacked by the monster Minotaur …
7. Inky blood. Cornelia Funke
“Inkblood” is a sequel to “Inkheart”, the second book in the trilogy. According to readers, the second book is more addictive, so much so that you can’t put it down. If you like action-packed stories, then you’ll love this book. There is constant adventure here!
The main characters end up in the Ink World (that is, in the book), where adventures, exploits, love and friendship await them (how could it be without it ?!) Fairies, mermaids, glass men live in a fairy tale world – in general, everyone you won’t see in the reality. The characters of Cornelia Funke are so psychologically accurate that they seem to live next to us.
6. Eragon. Christopher Paolini
Christopher Paolini – science fiction writer, the youngest author to sell a record number of books. The events of the book take place in the epic world of Alagaesia. The tetralogy includes Eragon, Eragon: The Return, and Eragon Brisingr. After reading these books, you will be surprised how easy the author writes and accessible to everyone.
Eragon is a boy who lives in the village of Carvahall. Having gone hunting, a mysterious stone, left by the warriors of the Empire by the elven Arya, falls into his hands. Eragon does not even suspect that he became the owner of a dragon egg … Later, a dragon hatches from it, and Eragon becomes a dragon rider.
5. Bartimaeus Trilogy. Jonathan Stroud
How often have you heard (and still hear) the phrase that all troubles are from the mind? This message can be traced in Jonathan Stroud’s book “The Bartimaeus Trilogy”. Bartimaeus is a very smart, free-spirited and humorous Genie.. He can do everything except one thing – he cannot but obey the one who calls him.
The trilogy takes place in England. The plot tells about a brutal, charismatic genie. Fulfilling the instructions of the boy, gradually the genie is imbued with respect for him. This is not friendship or sympathy, but recognition of the best qualities.
Bartimaeus will look at Nathaniel (the boy who summoned him) with different eyes… The ending of the book will not only surprise you, but amaze you.
4. Zercalia. Evgeny Gagloev
“Zertsalia” – a series of books for teenagers in the fantasy genre. A total of 6 books have been released, fans are looking forward to the 7th. Each book has a separate story, and each one is so captivating that you forget who you are and where you come from.
In the first part of Zertsalia we meet Katerina Derzhavina, an orphan girl living with her grandmother and stepmother. Suddenly, she finds herself in a maelstrom of fantastic events taking place in two worlds.
But where are these worlds? One is on the other side of the mirror, and the other is on this side. The girl will have to solve the mystery of the disappearance of her parents and fight the villains.
3. Worst witch ever. Jill Murphy
The Worst Witch book is small (only 96 pages), but very cozy. It tells about a little witch and her adventures. The fairy tale is suitable for reading for children, it is especially pleasant to listen to it before going to bed (parents, take note).
In Jill Murphy’s story, everything develops in an interesting and humorous way, and most importantly, it’s not scary. Mildred Hubble is the most hopeless student at the Witch Academy. The girl gets into trouble all the time.
She’s the type to forget to tie her shoelaces, cast the wrong spell, and brew the infusion with the wrong ingredients. But Mildred will definitely be in the right place at the right time!
2. Mechanical Angel. Cassandra Clare
If you are looking for a new fantasy story, you can recommend reading Mechanical Angel» Cassandra Clare. Throughout the book, intrigue remains – what secrets do the main characters hide – Tess and her lover?
Tessie came to England after receiving a letter from her missing brother. Once in the gloomy alleys of London, she discovers that she has fallen into the Lower World, where werewolves, sorcerers and vampires roam.
It turns out that the brother did not write a letter to Tess, and she ends up in the hands of the Dark Sisters, who need her ability – the girl can transform into any person and read other people’s minds if she wants to.
