Jungle. This word is strongly associated with adventures, dangers at every turn in the form of various outlandish animals, poisonous snakes and insects. In addition, there may be tribes that do not know the modern world, and civilization knows little about them. In general, every centimeter of the jungle is saturated with risk and breathes adrenaline. It is logical that cinema simply could not pass by this natural phenomenon. Can you imagine how many breathtaking pictures we would have lost otherwise? After all, here you can shoot everything – from comedies to horror films. However, the palm tree (or maybe the liana) of superiority is kept by the movie about adventures. Ready to wander through the rainforests in search of adrenaline? Then go ahead – ten of the coolest films about the jungle.
10 Apocalypse (2006)
Mel Gibson did a great job, taking not only a place in the credits (producer and scriptwriter), but also the director’s chair. The film also describes the dramatic events of the 120th century on the Yucatan Peninsula, where the Mayan tribes practiced human sacrifice in order to please the god Kukulkan. One of the potential victims, nicknamed Jaguar Paw, manages to escape from a terrible ritual (before being captured, he hid his pregnant wife in a pit). When the hero manages to completely free himself from the villains, a child is already born, and Jaguar Paw takes his family to the jungle to continue the family. The spectacle turned out to be spectacular, which is proved by cash receipts of cinemas for 40 million dollars (with XNUMX million spent).
9. A Romance with a Stone (1984)
Back in 1984, the film collected a box office that was not sickly even for today’s rental – as much as 86 million dollars (the picture cost more than 8 times cheaper). The plot tells the viewer about the young writer Joan Wilder, who dreams of meeting a man who has descended from the pages of her own novels. By the will of circumstances (we are talking about saving a kidnapped sister), Joan finds herself in the Colombian jungle, where she meets her dream in the form of Jack Colton (played by Michael Douglas). As a result, the sister is successfully saved, and Joan and Jack fall in love with each other. Robert Zemeckis really knows how to make movies!
8. Treasure of the Amazon (2003)
What do you think, what fees did this film with “The Rock” in the title role have? The correct answer is failure. The creators of the picture did not even beat off the budget of 85 million dollars. However, as you yourself understand, the employment in the project of Dwayne Johnson seems to whisper to us that it will be cool here. The hero of The Rock, according to the plot, finds himself in the Amazon jungle in order to find and return Travis (the negligent son of one influential authority) to his home. Easily finding the unlucky adventurer, Beck (that’s the name of our hero) finds out that Travis has already messed up the wood and decently got into quite risky business. This is where all the fun begins.
7. Anaconda (1997)
And here again, the cash register is in full order – the fees were three times higher than what was spent. Horror movie starring Jennifer Lopez takes us to the Amazonian jungle. The storyline unfolds as follows. The film crew plans to make a report about a little-known tribe living on the shores of the Amazon, but the group’s plans are interfered with by a giant killer anaconda and a fanatical man named Saron. In the process of destroying the snake, Saron interferes with the team members in every possible way, but in the end the anaconda is killed, and the surviving researchers still find the same tribe.
6. 100 days in the jungle (2002)
And again dramatic events, this time in the jungle of Ecuador. Employees of an oil company from Canada go on a business trip to maintain and repair the pipeline. In the jungle, they and two other tourists are kidnapped by Colombian terrorists. Knowing the financial capabilities of the oil company, the attackers set a fabulous amount of money as a ransom for employees – the company clearly did not count on such an impressive figure. A task force, consisting of former CIA employees, enters the case. As a result, the oil workers, exhausted by the cruel jungle and bandits, gain freedom. By the way, the film is based on a true story.
5. King Kong (2005)
It is unlikely that there are movie lovers who do not know what will be discussed below. By the way, the idea to make a film about the famous giant gorilla was far from new (the original film was shot already in 1933). However, the film crew did not have the idea to shovel the story – the main task was to show the story as fantastic as possible with the help of the most modern cinema technologies. We started with a fantastic budget for 2005 ($207 million) and… everything worked out. Indeed, the key moments of the film look very impressive and make you hold your breath. And the budget as a result fought back almost three times.
4. Outcast (2000)
Who if not Tom Hanks? Oh, and our old friend Zemeckis is right there. It looks like something really interesting is waiting for us. The plot itself does not carry anything supernatural – an ordinary mail delivery service clerk, Chuck Noland, gets into a plane crash, during which he is thrown out near a desert island along with all the parcels. Our “Robinson” spends alone with nature, himself and his own thoughts for 4 whole years. His best (albeit mute) friend on the island was Wilson’s ball. In the end, Chuck still manages to leave the island with the help of the built raft. Nolanda picks up a cargo ship, and our hero is back at home, where everything has changed upside down in his absence. Yes, yes, Tom Hanks was needed here.
3. The Jungle Book (2016)
In fact, this is the fourth full-length adaptation of Kipling’s work of the same name. The picture tells us about the life and adventures in the jungle of a boy named Mowgli. Once again, state-of-the-art animal imaging was at the top of the crew’s to-do list. And this time everything worked out. Bagheera panther, Sherkhan the tiger, Baloo the bear and Kaa the snake – all of them appeared on the screen as realistically as possible. This is evidenced not only by rave reviews from the audience: the film by Jon Favreau collected almost a billion dollars at the box office and received an Oscar just the same in the nomination dedicated to visual effects.
2. Mosquito Coast (1986)
Another box office failure. However, as in the previous case, the leading role is far from being the last representative of cinema. Harrison Ford played the role of an eccentric inventor who intended to build an ice factory on the area called the Mosquito Coast. The idea was so obsessive that the hero had constant conflicts on his side: with his family (the inventor came to the jungle not alone, but taking his closest people), the clergy in the person of the priest, and with Mother Nature in the end (really, to produce ice in the jungle is still somewhat absurd).
1. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)
Ho-ho, our friend “The Rock” again! What’s with the box office this time? And this time, 855 million dollars of rolling money is lying at the box office. The reason for this is not only the excellent casting (Kevin Hart is just worth something), but also a cool plot in which four friends playing Jumanji in the school basement move to the other side of the computer screen and get used to the avatars for which were playing. The actions of the heroes are still controlled by the players (only in reality and in living bodies), but the events are already dictated by Jumanji itself. Friends will experience in their own skin all the risks and dangers of the jungle.
