Many people tend to underestimate the seriousness of viruses: they continue to go to work, travel by public transport and do not bother with treatment, thereby making themselves worse and putting others at risk. ARVI usually lasts 3-4 days, and treatment should be started from the first day of the disease, otherwise complications can be earned.
An adult on average gets a cold 2-3 times a year! Classic signs of SARS: sneezing, watery eyes, headache, nasal congestion, nasal discharge (runny nose), sore throat and sinuses, fever, chills, joint and muscle pain1.
With SARS, viruses invade the body, therefore, in order to get back on your feet, you need to be treated with antiviral drugs. All remedies that can help with viruses are divided into three groups:
- interferon,
- synthetic agents,
- herbal preparations.

1. Arbidol Maximum
The rating is headed by the drug “Arbidol Maximum”, which has established itself on the market as an effective remedy for ARVI and influenza. It contains umifenovir hydrochloride monohydrate – it suppresses viruses and pathogens of acute respiratory viral infections2. In addition to the antiviral effect, “Arbidol Maximum” also has a moderate immunomodulatory effect.
The manufacturer claims that “Arbidol Maximum” facilitates the course of the disease and reduces the possible risk of complications.
Contraindicated in case of sensitivity to the components of the drug, as well as children under 12 years old, women in the first trimester of pregnancy and during lactation.
2. Kagocel
The active substance of this drug is the sodium salt of the copolymer. It forms late interferons in the body, they also take part in the fight against viruses. A big plus of this tool is that it can be used by both adults and children from three years old. He has established himself as a drug that fights not only against SARS, but also against the flu. The manufacturer also notes that in combination with antibiotics, Kagocel will enhance their effectiveness. It should not be taken during pregnancy and lactation.
3. Lavomax
This drug contains tilorone, and it promotes the synthesis of interferons. “Lavomax” also has an immunomodulatory effect and prevents the development of pathogenic cells in the body. The drug is actively used for acute respiratory viral infections, acute respiratory infections and even acute hepatitis. It is also used for influenza – it suppresses the reproductive function of viruses.
Contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to tilorone and other components, pregnant and lactating women, as well as children under 18 years of age.
4. Ergoferon
Ergoferon has a high pharmacological activity: it works as an antiviral, immunomodulatory, antihistamine and inflammatory drug. “Ergoferon” not only fights viruses, but is also a prophylactic drug for acute respiratory viral infections and influenza – it can be used at a time when everyone around is sick.
The remedy is contraindicated in children under 6 months of age, and during pregnancy and lactation it can be used if the doctor believes that the drug will do more good than harm.
5. Grippferon
“Grippferon” is recommended for the treatment of viral diseases, including influenza. This drug is referred to as interferons, and, as many people know, the production of interferons is an excellent protection against viruses. Interferons act in such a way that healthy cells of our body become immune to viruses, creating some kind of defense, therefore, if an infection enters the body, the immune system is activated and will not allow it to spread. “Grippferon” is also used as a means for the prevention of colds and flu.
It is contraindicated in case of individual intolerance to the components, as well as in severe forms of allergic diseases.
6. Rimantadine Aktitab
It is a popular and inexpensive drug in the drug market. “Rimantadine Aktitab” treats viruses and influenza, and is also actively used as a prophylactic if you suddenly came into contact with a sick person.
One important point – this seemingly harmless drug has a lot of side effects – up to asthma and an allergic rash. But he has few contraindications: hypersensitivity to drugs of the adamantane class, including rimantadine and amantadine.
7. Cycloferon
“Cycloferon” is known for suppressing viruses in the early stages. If you start treatment immediately upon infection, you can get on your feet within two to five days.
It contains meglumine acridone acetate, which is an inducer of interferon synthesis. “Cycloferon” is effective in ARVI, acute respiratory infections and influenza. Works as an anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and antiviral drug.
It is not recommended for use in liver cirrhosis, pregnancy, during breastfeeding. The drug is also contraindicated in children under 4 years of age.
8. Ingaron
The drug also belongs to interferons – it contains interferon gamma, which contributes to the activation of intracellular immunity. The virus is suppressed in a short time, in addition, the tool helps to avoid complications. “Ingaron” does not accumulate in the body and is completely eliminated from it within 24 hours after ingestion.
This remedy has few contraindications, it should not be taken only by pregnant women and those who have intolerance to any component of the drug.
9. Tamiflu
The active ingredient in Tamiflu is oseltamivir phosphate. It is effective against influenza A and B viruses. The agent prevents pathogens from entering the cells of the respiratory tract, which is why the virus cannot spread throughout the body.
Tamiflu is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the drug or its components, in severe renal failure, as well as in children under one year old.
10. Triazavirin
This drug is based on a synthetic analogue of purine nucleosides4. It is effective against RNA viruses. In treatment, it acts as an RNA inhibitor, destroys viruses in the body, or prevents them from breaking through when it comes to prevention.
Triazavirin should be used with caution and only after reading the instructions or consulting a doctor. The fact is that there is a possibility of an overdose, and hence nausea, vomiting, headaches. It is contraindicated in pregnant and lactating women, children under 18 years of age, as well as people with renal and hepatic insufficiency.
When choosing a drug, you need to focus on the following parameters:
- minimum side effects;
- lack of toxicity;
- the possibility of combining the drug with others (if you are taking any drugs).
