10 Wittenum, Australia
One of the abandoned cities, which is popular with tourists. Everyone wants to see Wittenoom, despite the fact that people are warned about the danger.
The Australian city has become famous for its high toxicity. The inhabitants of Wittenum were busy extracting asbestos, it was he who brought them prosperity and money.
But in the 60s, mortality increased among the population, which doctors and environmentalists could not help but pay attention to.
As it turned out, asbestos, or rather its pores, became the cause. They affected the respiratory tract and led to fatal diseases. Residents had no choice but to leave this city.
9. Chaiten, Chile
In May 2008, a volcano erupted, and the town completely died out after the incident.
Fortunately, the authorities evacuated the residents in time and were able to save them from death. When the eruption began in the city, every resident immediately received a respiratory mask, because it was impossible to breathe. The evacuation was successful, many residents even wanted to return home…
But the town turned into an “ashy” desert – it was covered with ashes several meters high, and only 10% of the houses remained from it.
8. Kolmanskop, Namibia
The dead town appeared after an ordinary worker saw a shiny pebble under his feet and decided to pick it up …
It was in 1908. He wanted to share what he had discovered with someone, and showed the stone to the head of the railway, which was called the Lüderitz-Kietmanshoop. From that moment on, the “diamond rush” began.
Because of the valuable mineral, Africans began to come to Kolmanskop, and its numbers began to grow. The town prospered: hospitals, schools, houses for residents were built. But the valuable mineral reserves were depleted, people had nowhere to work, so they began to leave the city.
7. Varosha, Cyprus
Once Varosha was a tourist area, and was considered one of the most luxurious in the region.
But in 1974, the capture of Cyprus by the Turks happened – they divided the territory. Many residents had to leave their homes, but they hoped to return someday.
Unfortunately, they were unable to do so. The military surrounded Cyprus and placed barbed wire everywhere.
Now no one will be able to get into this area – only peacekeepers and the military are allowed to enter. As usual, there is a positive side to any event – rare marine species of turtles began to nest on the deserted beaches.
6. Oradour-sur-Glans, France
On June 10, 1994, Oradour-sur-Glane was occupied by the German Nazis. Despite the occupation, nothing foreshadowed a tragedy in a small nearby village. Residents gathered in the evenings, drank coffee, talked, not knowing what awaited them …
For some reason, on the night of June 10, a detachment of 150 fighters decided to disturb the peace of the inhabitants of the village of Oradour-sur-Glane. The Nazis broke into a peaceful and calm village and destroyed all its inhabitants, not sparing children and women. Those who managed to survive decided to start building a new place to live near the ruins.
The city of Oradour-sur-Glane still terrifies … And it will forever remain a memory of Nazi barbarism.

4. Krakow, Italy
Frequent earthquakes have done their job – the city of Krako has become a ghost town since the 60s. The fact is that the city is located on a rock, and tremors manifested themselves until 1991. It was dangerous for the inhabitants to stay, and they left Krako without hesitation.
But you can admire the city from the side – when the sunset comes, the warm rays lie on the greenish hills and fields, which seem to have no edge …

It had rich natural accumulations of coal, and the population was about 5000 miners living with their families.
Coal was replaced by gasoline as a fuel and the inhabitants left the small town in 1974.

2. Villa Epecuen, Argentina
In the 20s, a tourist village was built on the shore of a lake in Argentina, which they called Villa Epecuen. Until the 80s, she fulfilled the requirements of landowners.
Due to the level of salt in the lake and its healing effect, the village was inhabited by many people. But in 1985, on November 10, the rains did not stop, and high humidity led to the fact that the volume of water increased and the dam broke.
In 1993, the village was completely flooded. To date, the water has subsided, but no one else settles here.
1. San Ji, Taiwan
Looking at this abandoned town, it is even hard to imagine that in the 80s a modern and fashionable city was built here.
In the ghost town of San Zhi, houses were built with rounded bedrooms, elegant staircases. Everything looked luxurious and beautiful.
But soon frightening rumors began to appear in the circle of builders that San Zhi was cursed. One after another, inexplicable accidents began to occur: workers died, broke their necks, fell from a height … But despite this, by 1980 the construction was completed.
But buyers, having learned about the rumors, did not want to buy property on the cursed land. Companies failed and the beautiful resort became a ghost.
