Working more than 11 hours a day instead of the usual eight hours significantly increases the risk of heart disease, reports the journal Annals of Internal Medicine.
The team led by prof. For several years, Mika Kivimaki from University College London monitored the health of 7095 civil servants – 2109 women and 4986 men aged 39 to 62. It turned out that people working for particularly long periods were 67 percent. more likely to develop heart disease.
As suggested by the study authors, GPs should ask patients how long they work for and consider this risk factor in treatment. The discovery should also be an alarm signal for people who work excessively, especially if they are also obese or have hypertension (PAP).
