Tomintoul (Томинтоул)

The Tomintoul Distillery is Scotland’s largest distillery, delivering more than 3 million liters of high-quality single malt whiskey to the local and international markets annually. To date, 116 barrels of different varieties and strength levels (from 40 to 46%) are successfully located in the company’s cellar. Experts consider Tomintoul to be the most balanced and remarkably soft Scotch.

Particular softness is achieved as a result of the manufacturer’s refusal from cold filtration. The unique aroma and taste are provided by high-quality raw materials and long-term aging in oak barrels. Depending on the storage conditions and production technology, the taste of scotch tape is filled with notes of exotic fruits, raisins, barley, and wood. The aroma is rich in vanilla, honey, oak, spices. The common color of the drink is golden amber.

Historical reference. The work on the production of real Scotch whiskey by the Tomintoul team has been carried out for a relatively short time – since 1965. The secret of success is in the successful location of the enterprise – near the spring with the purest water “Ballentruan”. It was this water that from the first days became one of the main components of the new whiskey. You can find the distillery in the village of Tomintoul, located on the Glenlivet estate near the Carygorm National Park. This mountainous part of Scotland with amazingly beautiful nature and clean air is located on a plateau 268 meters high.

In 1974, Whyte & Mackay became the owner of the distillery, which decided to install additional distillation equipment and thereby increase production volumes. After 16 years, the distillery became the property of the American company American Brand Inc., and since 2000 the owner has changed again – now the London company Angus Dundee Distillers is at the helm, significantly expanding the range of the drink: varieties with a smoky peat bouquet have appeared.

Production owes a lot to Robert Fleming, who has been with the company since 1974. Due to the fact that this master was a hereditary winemaker, it was not difficult for him to establish an effective process for creating Scotch whiskey, which was appreciated in many countries. Today, the Tomintoul team uses 8 large stainless steel fermenters and a large number of copper stills.

Tomintoul products got into the Guinness Book of Records by releasing the largest bottle of whiskey with a volume of 105 liters, which is not for sale and is the symbol of the company.
