Tomato Snow Tale: description, photo, reviews

The tomato is such a versatile and popular vegetable that it’s hard to imagine a backyard plot where at least a few square meters would not be allocated for its cultivation. But this culture is of southern origin and is unsuitable for growing in open ground for most of the northern and eastern regions of Our Country. And not everyone has greenhouses either.

Therefore, in recent years, a direction in breeding has become very popular, associated with the creation of resistant tomato varieties that could easily grow in areas of so-called risky farming. These are the regions in the north of Our Country – the Arkhangelsk, Leningrad regions, and many regions of the Urals and Siberia.

Siberian breeders have created many magnificent varieties of tomatoes that have very attractive characteristics of both the fruits and the tomato plants themselves. One of these varieties with a charming and magical name is the Snow Fairy Tale tomato, a description of the variety and characteristics of the fruits of which can be found below in this article. Still, the name alone can say a lot about the appearance of plants. Plants of this variety of tomato are often compared with a Christmas tree dressed up for the holiday. They really look very decorative. Well, tasty and juicy fruits complete the positive impression that usually develops from the first acquaintance with this variety.

Variety description

The Snow Tale tomato was bred by the famous breeder from Novosibirsk V.N. Dederko. Thanks to his breeding work, many outstanding varieties of tomatoes were bred, the variety of which would be quite enough to satisfy the possible tastes and preferences of gardeners. Tomato Snow Fairy Tale is a special variety bred specifically for cultivation in the open field of the West Siberian region. But this region also includes the Tyumen region, which is one of the northernmost zones for the cultivation of tomatoes in general. Moreover, the Snezhnaya Skazka variety was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Our Country in 2006 and was officially recommended for cultivation in the West Siberian region.

Seeds of this variety are sold mainly in bags of the Siberian Garden company.

Variety Winter’s Tale can be classified as superdeterminant, since it hardly reaches 50 cm in height. Moreover, this tomato is standard. That is, it has a powerful, almost tree-like trunk, and a fairly compact root system. The volume of leaves in such tomatoes is usually the same as in ordinary varieties, but due to their closer arrangement to each other, a more compact crown with a significant leaf surface is obtained. Therefore, in terms of productivity, such tomatoes do not lag behind their counterparts.

The main advantage of standard determinant varieties of tomatoes is that they do not require pinching at all, which means that the garter and the formation of bushes are also canceled. On the beds, they can be planted a little denser than ordinary tomatoes, which means that the yield per square meter of the area involved increases. All this is quite true for the tomato Snow Fairy Tale. Its leaves have a traditional shape for tomatoes, dark green in color. The peduncle has no articulation.

The inflorescence is of the simple type. The very first inflorescence is usually formed after 6 or 7 leaves, later they form through the leaf.

Attention! Tomato of this variety can form too many flowers in one inflorescence. To increase the size of tomatoes, some of the flowers can be removed.

There are some discrepancies in the timing of the ripening of this tomato in various sources. Some claim that the variety is ultra-early. In others, and, in particular, in the description of the originator, it is stated that the Snow Fairy tale tomato belongs rather to the middle-ripening – after all, 105-110 days pass from the moment the first shoots appear to the full ripening of the fruit. The discrepancy in terms is most likely due to the fact that at the stage of technical maturity, which undoubtedly occurs earlier (on the 85-90th day), the fruits of the Snow Tale acquire a very attractive milky white hue. Then they gradually turn orange and finally turn red.

Due to the uneven ripening of tomatoes on the tomato bushes Snow Fairy Tale, one can observe a very picturesque picture. Small tomatoes of three different colors – white, orange, red, decorate compact green bushes with velvety foliage.

The yield of this tomato is quite high – up to 30 tomatoes of varying degrees of ripeness can ripen on one bush in one go. On an industrial scale, about 285 centners of marketable tomatoes are harvested from one hectare.

Peculiarities of growing

Despite the fact that the Snow Fairy tomato is zoned for the West Siberian region, these tomatoes will turn out to be just a godsend for many gardeners whose plots are located in a climatic zone with a cool and short summer season. Of course, for the successful cultivation of tomatoes in any climatic zone, a preliminary seedling period is necessary. Tomato seeds Snow Fairy Tale are sown for seedlings throughout March. Seedlings usually grow very strong, stocky and healthy.

In open ground, these tomatoes can be planted at stable positive temperatures in the daytime.

Advice! Before planting, for a week or two, tomato seedlings must be hardened, taking them out into the fresh air during the daytime, gradually increasing the period of stay on the street from 0,5 hours to 8-10 hours.

To protect against possible night frosts, planted tomato plants can be covered with non-woven material.

It is not necessary to form or pinch plants of the Snow Fairy Tale variety. You can tie them up as needed in case of a special crop overload.

But preventive treatments for diseases must be carried out several times per season. It is better to use biological preparations for these purposes, such as Fitosporin, Gliocladin and others.

In any case, tomatoes also need regular watering and top dressing. The need for additional nutrients increases especially during the budding period, after flowering and during the ripening of tomatoes.

Testimonials from truck drivers

Tomato Snow Tale leaves about itself especially indifferent reviews of gardeners living in areas that are not the most favorable for the growth of tomatoes.

Oksana, 42 years old, Arkhangelsk region
I was simply fascinated by the Snow Fairy tale tomatoes. They cannot be confused with other tomato varieties. The bushes are small, but strong, like small trees, all strewn with small multi-colored fruits. The leaves of these tomatoes are also beautiful, as if velvet. Tomatoes look very good in small liter and even half-liter jars. I even managed to make a few jars of adjika. The harvest was amazing. I will definitely collect the seeds and plant this variety next year.
Alexandra, 39 years old, Ulyanovsk
We do not have a greenhouse on our site, and growing a tomato always resembles a tape measure – it will work or not. Someone advised me to get the seeds of a tomato called Snowy Tale. The name, of course, is seductive, but I really liked the variety. Seedlings grew very beautiful and healthy. I planted her in the ground already closer to the middle of June, and she very quickly went to collect buds. By the end of the month, all the bushes were strewn with flowers, from which small fruitlets began to form. There were a lot of them. As soon as such crumbs, only about 40-50 cm high, withstood such a number of fruits. Most of them managed to blush right on the bushes, but they were so beautiful, snow-white and in an unripe state. I understood why the variety got such a name.
Elena, 34 years old, Novosibirsk
I really liked the Snow Fairy tale tomato because it doesn’t need to be shaped at all. Pretty crumbs grow for themselves in the garden with almost no care, and tasty tomatoes still ripen on them. One bush, along with Indians, accidentally ended up in a greenhouse. He grew a little more in height, but the tomatoes did not become much larger, and the yield was the same as in the beds. Therefore, next year I will grow this variety only in open ground.

Conclusion

Tomato Snow Fairy Tale will be an ideal choice for those gardeners whose plots are minimally adapted for growing tomatoes, as well as in case of a lack of time, since he needs a minimum of care.
