Again, spring is ahead and gardeners are dreaming about new varieties of tomatoes that will be grown on the site. There are a lot of varieties and hybrids on the market, it is not so easy to choose. That is why descriptions and characteristics of interesting tomatoes are needed.
One of the amazing varieties is the Siberian tiger tomato. This is a selection product of scientists from the United States of America. The author is Mark McCaslin. He called his brainchild Siberian Tiger.
Variety description
The Blue and King of Beauty varieties were chosen as the parents of the new Siberian Tiger tomato. In the southern regions, the tomato has a good return in the open field, but in the middle lane it is recommended to grow it in greenhouses.
Bush features
Exotic tomato pink Siberian tiger belongs to indeterminate varieties. The plant is mid-season, technical maturity occurs 110-120 days after germination.
Tomato bushes are high, up to 1,5 meters (in a greenhouse), it is impossible to grow without support and tying. To get a decent harvest, it is necessary to pinch and remove excess leaves. A bush is formed in 1-2 stems.
The leaves of the American variety of tomatoes are rich green. They are long, medium leafiness. Peduncles powerful, with a large number of ovaries (from 4 to 6). About 6-7 brushes with tomatoes are formed on one stem.
Fruit
The shape of the tomato does not always match the description on the bag. The thing is that this tomato is still being improved.
Therefore, gardeners write in reviews that tomatoes are semicircular or resemble a ball. On tomatoes of the American variety, ribbing is observed, regardless of the shape of the fruit.
The tomato variety Siberian tiger has a dense pulp, fleshy, but the skin is thin. Unripe fruits are light green in color with emerging stripes. In technical ripeness, do not take your eyes off the tomato of this variety. This exotic fruit of American origin will not leave anyone indifferent.
Tomatoes of the Siberian Tiger variety are distinguished by a bright purple-pink color. The shoulders at the stalk become purple-blue, and there are also stripes reminiscent of the colors of the tiger.
The weight of the fruit on the first brush is 300 grams and slightly higher. On the remaining inflorescences, tasty, sweet, with a fruity aroma, tomatoes weighing about 150 grams are formed.
The fruits of this variety are multi-chamber, sugary on the cut. The flesh is deep red. There are many seeds in tomatoes, they are medium in size.
Characteristic of the variety
Based on the description of the Siberian Tiger tomato, we will find out its advantages and disadvantages.
Pros
- Exotic look.
- Excellent and unusual taste properties.
- The possibility of growing tomatoes in open and protected ground.
- Good yield, given the weight of the fruit and the number of formed inflorescences and ovaries.
- Tomato varieties do not crack on the bushes if watering is not too plentiful. They hold well, do not fall off, even when overripe.
- Tomatoes the Siberian tiger of universal appointment. Excellent raw material for sauces, tomato juice, cooking lecho, ketchups and salads for the winter.
- The transportability of the variety is average, because of the thin skin, the fruits require special packing in boxes.
Cons
As you can see, there are many advantages. Let’s look at the disadvantages:
- A tall determinate plant has to be limited in growth by pinching the main stem.
- It is necessary to form tomatoes of a variety only in one or two stems, so as not to overload the plants, therefore, one cannot do without stepping. Tomatoes need to be tied up not only with stems, but also with bunches, as shown in the photo.
- For canning whole fruits, the variety is not suitable due to the thin skin.
- In the conditions of the south, all brushes ripen even in open ground. In the zone of risky farming, it is possible to grow a tomato of the Siberian Tiger variety only in a greenhouse.
As you can see, the tomato has both advantages and disadvantages. But without starting to grow a plant, it is difficult to judge it. Therefore, we recommend trying to grow an exotic plant, and then send us your feedback on Siberian tiger tomatoes, as well as complete the description and characteristics.
Interesting varieties of tomatoes:
Agrotechnics variety
As indicated in the characteristics and description of the variety, the Siberian tiger tomato can be grown in any soil, depending on the climatic conditions of the region.
Preparation of seedlings
- Tomato seeds of this variety are planted in prepared soil in containers convenient for each gardener. The soil can be purchased at the store (it is fully balanced) or you can prepare it yourself by taking equal parts of the earth from the garden, compost or humus. To improve the structure of the soil, a little sand is added, and wood ash is used to combat the black leg.
- The ground and container must be disinfected. They use, as a rule, boiling water with potassium permanganate added to it. The earth is shed with a pink solution and covered with a dense cloth to improve the processing effect.
- Tomato seeds also need to be prepared. They are first poured into salt water to select frail and unripe specimens (they will float to the top). Then they are washed in warm water and placed in a pink solution of potassium permanganate for 15 minutes. Washed again and dried to a loose state. Seeds of the Siberian Tiger tomato variety are not recommended to be soaked and germinated.
- Dry seeds are laid out in sowing containers to a depth of no more than 1,5 cm (ideally 8-9 mm) in moist soil. Cover the top of the container with a piece of cellophane to speed up germination. Before germination, the box is exposed to a warm, lit window. Thanks to the greenhouse effect, tomato seeds germinate within 4-5 days. The film is removed and the temperature is slightly reduced so that the seedlings do not stretch. To save space on the windowsill, seeds can be grown in a snail.

- Before landing in a permanent place, glasses with Siberian tiger tomatoes are taken out into the fresh air for hardening. In ready-to-plant tomatoes, the stems acquire a bluish tint.
Planting and care in the ground
Land for tomatoes is prepared in the fall. It is fertilized, dug up. If for some reason the work has not been completed, then this can be done in the spring.
After preparing the wells, each is shed with a pink solution of potassium permanganate (boiling water), a handful of wood ash is added.
The distance between plants is at least 50 cm, because only 4 tomatoes are planted per square meter. Seedlings should not be deeply buried, otherwise the vegetative period will last. The fruits will ripen two weeks later.
Immediately after planting, the seedlings are shed and the soil is mulched. Be sure to cut off the lower leaves and stepchildren to the first fork. Form a bush in a greenhouse in one or two stems. In open ground, you can leave 2-3. In the future, all stepchildren are removed and the leaves are pinched under the knotted brushes. This will provide access to light and facilitate air circulation.
Further care for tomatoes of the Siberian tiger variety comes down to traditional actions:
- watering, loosening, weeding;
- top dressing of tomatoes;
- preventive measures against diseases.
Siberian tiger tomatoes are recommended to be fed with organic fertilizers.
When the bush grows to the ceiling of the greenhouse, pinch the stems. Such an operation allows you to redistribute nutrients that will begin to work on the formation and maturation of the crop.
