Tomato King of the market: reviews, photos

Professionals in the cultivation of tomatoes have long preferred to deal mainly with tomato hybrids, since they are distinguished by incomparable resistance to adverse conditions, good yields and safety of grown vegetables. But even simple gardeners sometimes want to be XNUMX% sure of the results of their labors. And do not rely only on good weather in the summer and good luck, thanks to which you will be able to pay maximum attention to your tomato bushes and enjoy a good harvest.

Tomato hybrids can greatly facilitate the life of gardeners and therefore continue to be in demand among the population, even despite some of their shortcomings. The weak points of hybrids include the impossibility of using seeds from grown fruits for further reproduction of tomatoes and the somewhat rubbery taste of fruits.

Tomato King of the Market F1, having appeared for the first time at the beginning of the XNUMXst century, immediately aroused such an increased interest among both farmers and ordinary summer residents that manufacturers launched a whole series of tomato hybrids under this name.

Attention! At the moment, at least thirteen varieties of this tomato hybrid are known.

The article will give an overview of all the most popular hybrids of this series of tomatoes with their brief characteristics and descriptions of varieties.

History of occurrence

The first tomato in this series was called King of the Market No. 1. It was bred at the very beginning of the XNUMXst century by breeders of the Scientific and Production Corporation “NK. LTD, better known to gardeners and vegetable growers as the Garden agricultural company.

Already the tomatoes of this first hybrid fully justified the name given to them – they were really kings in many respects. And in terms of yield, and resistance to diseases and adverse growing conditions, and the duration of storage and transportation.

Immediately after it, hybrid No. 2 from the same series appeared, which corresponded to all the characteristics of the first hybrid, but was more suitable for whole-fruit canning, since it had an elongated cylindrical fruit shape and a small mass of tomatoes.

Both of the first Kings were intended mainly for processing and obtaining a variety of tomato products, although they could also be suitable for salads.

But starting from No. 4, tomato hybrids received an exclusively salad purpose, their taste characteristics were improved, and breeders thoroughly worked on the size of ripe fruits.

With the exception of No. 5, whose fruit sizes do not exceed 200 grams, the rest of the kings compete with each other in the size of tomatoes, which continue to retain all their unique properties inherent in all hybrids of this series without exception.

Important! In 2006, one of the hybrids King Market No. 7 was even listed in the State Register of Our Country with recommendations for growing in the open field of the North Caucasus region.

Other hybrids of this series have not yet received a similar honor.

If the first hybrids of this series were specially designed for growing in open ground and belonged to the determinant group, then later the maturation time and growth characteristics of the bushes became very diverse. There were also multi-colored hybrids of this series. The latest novelty, launched in 2017, was the Orange king of the market.

General characteristics

Despite the wide variety of tomatoes in the King of the Market series, these hybrids have some features that are inherent in absolutely all representatives of this group of tomatoes.

  • High resistance to most diseases characteristic of nightshade: Fusarium, verticillium, Alternaria, gray leaf spot, tobacco mosaic virus;
  • Tomatoes are also rarely affected by pests;
  • The fruits are characterized by long shelf life (up to 1 month or more) and good preservation (they do not crack either on the bushes or after harvesting);
  • Tomatoes have dense flesh and smooth, strong skin, which makes them ideal for any preparations;

  • The shape of the tomatoes is perfect, almost without ribbing.
  • High yield of marketable fruits, up to 92%;
  • Resistant to temperature extremes and other weather conditions that may be unfavorable for tomato development;
  • Stable and fairly high yields due to good fruit set, which is practically independent of weather factors.

Features of individual hybrids

Initially, the King of the Market hybrid series was created specifically for the industrial cultivation of tomatoes in the open field. Therefore, the vast majority of tomatoes in this series belong to determinate plants that are limited in growth and the height of the bushes does not exceed 70-80 cm. But Tomato Kings numbered 8, 9, 11 and 12 are indeterminate plants and they can be grown both in open ground, as well as under warm conditions.

Comment! In terms of maturation, the very first Kings of the market belong to mid-early hybrids.

At the same time, No. 7 is already mid-ripening, and the last Orange King of the market No. 13 even belongs to mid-late tomatoes. Its fruits ripen 120-130 days after germination, and therefore in many regions of Our Country it makes sense to grow it only in greenhouses, or at least under film shelters.

To make it easier to navigate the abundance of characteristics of hybrids of the King of the Market series, below is a summary table that discusses all the main representatives of this series.

Testimonials from truck drivers

Gardeners were immediately attracted by the tomatoes of the King of the Market series and they were willingly grown in various regions of Our Country, despite the relatively high cost of seeds. The reviews of gardeners on tomatoes of this series are mostly positive, although there are also recognized leaders: No. 1, No. 7, Pink No. 8 and King Giant No. 9 are especially popular.

Valentina, 48 years old, Lipetsk
I grew the King of the Market No. 1 for two years in a row, and then it even became uninteresting. There are too many tomatoes, everyone has already eaten, made a lot of twists, and they all ripen and ripen. They probably really need to be sold, but I have no craving for this, so I just handed out the surplus.
Elena, 38 years old, Penza
When I planted the King of the Market No. 2, I did not expect such an effect at all. Although I was told that the variety is very unpretentious and productive. The summer was cold and rainy, many other varieties died from phytophthora, so the harvest was received only from the King. And which! The bushes were strewn with a little cream from top to bottom. It is not necessary to pinch it – the harvest will be late, but it will be more plentiful. And from the two bushes that I put into two stalks, I picked ripe tomatoes already in July.
Tatyana, 49 years old, Omsk
She grew varieties of the King of the Market No. 1 and No. 2. I really liked both unpretentiousness and productivity, and the taste was also not bad, but last year I tried No. 6 and I didn’t like them at all.
Mikhail, 37 years old, Ekaterinburg
I liked the variety King of the Market No. 4, although it is a hybrid. In general, I don’t really favor them and rarely plant them, but I liked this one both in taste and in appearance. The bushes were not high, but very spreading. Grown in open ground. The yield is very good. I even collected the seeds, I’ll see what will grow if I sow next year.
Galina, 32 years old, Chita
My family has been into tomatoes for a long time, and the King of the Market tomatoes are one of our favorites. Every year we track new items from them and order them online, since they are not sold here. They are very diverse, and among them you can choose for everyone for every taste and size. The most delicious, in my opinion, are Pink and Honey Kings. King Giant really has very large fruits, the weight of some reached 900 grams.
Dmitry, 49 years old, Barnaul
I have been growing the Pink King of Market No. 8 tomato for five years in a row and I think that it fully justifies its name. The stability of his crops is truly amazing. In the very dry summer of 2010, the tomatoes were only slightly undersized. And in 2015, it rained for the whole summer, and I thought that phytophthora would destroy the entire crop. Nothing like this! Even there were no cracks in the fruits, and it was impossible to imagine rotten tomatoes. You can use these tomatoes for anything – they are excellent both fresh and in all twists. Now they occupy at least half of the total space allotted for tomatoes.

Conclusion

Tomatoes King of the Market amaze with the variety of their varieties, unpretentiousness and stable and sustainable harvest. Perhaps that is why their popularity does not subside. For any, even the most fastidious gardener, there is a variety among them that will surely make him change his mind about hybrids.
